Re: How a Kitten Works

Just adopted two little adorable kittens this week, so I have kittens on the brain

Seriously, they melt me into a pile of goo...but it's rather scientific, if you break it down.

Thanks for the feedback in the cyberpub!

Edit: Here you can find what will be the final image if this prints. 2 small changes: added forgotten whiskers, and eliminated one accidental bg blob.

Seriously... I thought paw pads were cute on cats. On kittens? It's a whole new level of teeny cuteness.

Thanks vzfamily, and awwww. The kitten this is modeled after is actually black and white, but grey worked better for the design - and for you too apparently

I can deal with cuteness for the sake of mockery. Yes, that works.
And BTW - I think this works for puppies, too!

hehe good! You can wear it safe with the mockery then. And you're right, I'm sure it works for puppies too.

(Though I'm guessing kittens have one advantage in their toilet training abilities. No mess. 'Learn to use a litterbox in 30 seconds' vs 'weeks of messes'. So I've heard anyway, I haven't trained any puppies, heh).

odysseyroc wrote:Needs more donuts!
These may be the youngest kittens I've cared for, but I'm quite sure donuts were not on the approved foods list the rescue place provided;)

cat thing wrote:Your design makes me think of this comic, which describes the effects of kittens quite well.
Haha pretty much.
I was actually thinking a bit of this when I was doing this. In addition to all cute things, and the new kittens!

Thanks Azurett! I posted some options in the threads before the derby but didn't get any clear forerunners, and offsite some people liked this one. I myself really like this shade of green - kelly green! I hope it will grow on you;)

Ackkkkk you're right. I kept thinking 'remember to add the whiskers after all the colors are done' (wasn't sure if they would be white or black), but then I guess I got caught up in the text. I haven't submitted the print-ready file yet, so if it were to win, I will add some small whiskers (not enough to change it significantly, but at least so they are there). When I get a chance I'll add them and post it in this thread so you can see it.

Cute and funny, but how does this design not violate the "minimal text" rule for this derby?

Use minimal text. We don't want to deny the comedy potential in labeling your diagrams, but we don't want a shirt with your senior thesis on microwave radiation, either.

Re: How a Kitten Works

@The Tim - Thanks, glad you find it cute and funny! I'm hoping, since this is basically a diagram, woot considers it in the diagram labeling category, not the senior thesis category. I had a version with less text but this version is funnier I think... hopefully this is safe now, because otherwise I would have resubmitted the less-text version.

@rinoa1025 - Glad you love it! I really like this shade of green, hope the color grows on you.

Too much text in my opinion.

I don't feel like it expresses how a kitten does

More what it makes it up and what it has.

Well drawn and well done though! ;D

Don't kittens say "meow"?

"If drinking is bitter, change yourself to wine." -Rainer Maria Rilke

"Champagne is a very kind and friendly thing on a rainy night." -Isak Dinesen

"There are many ways to the recognition of truth; Burgundy is one of them." -Isak Dinesen

Re: How a Kitten Works

Besides not really seeing "how a kitten works" (it's more of a picture of a kitten with arrows showing its parts), this far and away violates minimal or incidental text. This design does not exist without text.

Re: How a Kitten Works

@lolcommunism - It's more trying to explain how a kitten works.. (unsaid) to make you fall in love! Glad you find it well drawn and well done, thanks!

@palookaboy - in a good way? or a bad way?

@bassanimation - Thanks so much! Kittens have been all I've been thinking about lately, so this came to mind pretty quick:D

@kylemittskus - Kittens say lots of things... Mew, meow, purrrr, brrrtt! Though I feel like at the kitten stage, there are a lot more mews than meows;)

@adderxyu - see first post to lolcommunism... and this is labeling a diagram (not a thesis), as they said in the rule about text, so hopefully woot is ok with it. I tried other versions with a different presentation, but this seemed to be the preferred one.

@lovengrey - I do the same thing when I'm feeling down - go to cuteoverload.com or just look up cute animal videos on youtube, hehe. Awww well that's awesome that this shirt would do the same thing!

It is not labeling a diagram. It is labeling a regular cat. And the labels don't say anything about working, and the cat is not doing anything. Your excuse that "the cat is working on making us love it" is otaku-theme-validation weak.

Re: How a Kitten Works

@adder - I've been interested in the past in 'the science of cute', and thought it worked within the theme... the breakdown of how each part of a cat works collectively to win you over (hence the text), and would make an amusing shirt to some, especially with all the cute discussion on here. Sorry if you don't agree.

@Hektikshok - Definitely a kitten

@Mishvmd - Thanks very much! Do Humane/Adoption societies take t-shirt designs? If you know who or how, please let me know. If not, I was thinking if it doesn't get top 3 or an HM, perhaps I can submit it to goodjoe and set it up to donate to the rescue organization I just got my new kittens from.

@creativev8tion - That's nice you work at an animal shelter! Thanks!=)

@palookaboy - Actually it's funny... I've heard it used in situations when people are so overwhelmed by something cute it's ridiculous and they nearly can't cope

Yeah, now that I look at it, it does have too much text. But, some of it could be taken out; like the "tiny tail" and "button nose". Those are the ones that seem unnecessary and, if removed, would make the design seem cleaned up.

@Azurett - Hmmm... yup, it is too late now, but you're probably right, perhaps I could have at least eliminated button nose for a bit less text (though their button noses ARE so cute!)

And, if you want one - you should adopt one There are soooo many kittens in need (especially right now, kittens tend to be born now) that are abandoned and orphaned and need homes and people to love them and care for them like you!:D

@matheuct - ack! First off they are much too small to be a meal for 2.

And second - Public announcement: keep your kittens away from mathuect!!!
