Idea by Arparham.
This was drawn from scratch and has some differences from the original sailor and nurse.
Thanks for the earlier help and feedback everyone

Aha! That little photo-genic cheating b*stard is gonna get what he has coming now!
Way to nail the theme this week.

Re: The Angry Girlfriend
Nailed the theme. Great concept. Not sure the design works on the shirt though.
Re: The Angry Girlfriend
Nice concept. But his wrist is broken and her legs are weird
lol your concept and illustration are terrific. nailed it, along with my vote!

so far one of the few I think actually fall in the theme... Good Job. I'll try to give you a run for your money, but I'll probably be buying this shirt next week.
I have a wicked problem with that gray silhouette above the main ones. It's bothering me so bad, everything else is very nice.
Re: The Angry Girlfriend
Every time i see this picture, i think of the Zoot suit riots.

Agreed, one of the few that fall into the theme. For that AND for the fact that I would buy one - GMV!
Re: The Angry Girlfriend
Jasneko, this is flat out brilliant. I personally like that even the reaction itself is best set in the time period. IMHO it is original work and should escape any copyright issues.
Re: The Angry Girlfriend
Funny enough, I think this is somewhat like the true story behind the photo. I remember seeing something on the TV where the sailor just grabbed a random nurse and kissed her... I don't think they had a relationship at all.
Re: The Angry Girlfriend
I was thinking about using this photo somehow but drew a blank. Very nice work janesko!
JRWorkshop wrote:Nice concept. But his wrist is broken and her legs are weird
They look that way in the original photo, too...

It is a true story! That is why I got so
excited about this theme.
He actually married the girlfriend he was with when the photo was taken. She was just a random nurse. That is why they had such a hard time finding the two individuals.
Thanks for all the nice comments about the conception and design of our shirt!
Fantastic Jas, amazing!
Re: The Angry Girlfriend
This is one of my favorite photos, and I love what you've done with it. The twist is great. =) GMV!
Re: The Angry Girlfriend
You know, from my experience with dating a guy in the military, this was probably pretty accurate.
Re: The Angry Girlfriend
Thanks everyone for the great comments!
Arparham's idea was a good one... for people interested in the creative process... her idea:
------------
V-Day! The nurse and the sailor. Then… do what you want in the back ground!
We could:
-his girlfriend being held back from trying to beat the nurse. (he was actually with his gf at the time and later married her.)
-have it be a photo shoot
-the world falling apart, there is only a little bit of land under them
-T-Rex is running after everyone
-THE MARSHMELLOW MAN after everyone
-Everyone is a zombie
-Anything… and they can all be changed to be more G or even use animals.
-------------
I decided to go with the girlfriend idea to keep it the most possibly happened/on theme... looks like that might not have mattered in woot's eyes, but glad people are digging it and props to Arparham for her creative idea
Love it! Would buy it in a heartbeat. GMV. ![]()

Re: The Angry Girlfriend
This is pretty awesome, jasneko. Congrats on your second print!
Re: The Angry Girlfriend

Re: The Angry Girlfriend

Re: The Angry Girlfriend
This is amazing. Like everyone has said, It's on theme, and I'd actually buy it! Excellent work adapting an excellent photograph to this derby.

I think I'd like this as a poster more than a T-shirt. But still a great design. GMV!

That is quite an honor coming from you! I appreciate it so much. Jasneko is amazing to collaborate with. And I had fun coming up with the many other ideas I had for this derby!
History and literature are pretty much my "niche." Thus, my love for this derby.
I would love to share some of the other ideas I had with you.
Thanks again for the comment.
Jas-I can't tell you again what a fantastic job you did!
Re: The Angry Girlfriend
Actually, this is quite accurate. Here's an account of the picture:
//Mendonça, on leave from the USS The Sullivans (DD-537), was watching a movie with his date, his future wife, Rita,[6] at Radio City Music Hall when the doors opened and people started screaming the war was over. George and Rita took part in the partying on the street, but when they couldn't get into the packed bars decided to walk down the street. It was then that George saw a nurse walk by and took her into his arms and kissed her, "I had quite a few drinks that day and I considered her one of the troops—she was a nurse."[6] In one of the four pictures that Eisenstaedt took, Mendonça claims that Rita is visible in the background behind the kissing couple.[6]

If you look at my above post I said something similar. I had no clue that his girlfriend is visible in any of them! I'll have to go find it. I love reading about it all.

OH!! It's the SAILOR'S gf, not the nurse's! lol ;)
