Re: i have a dream

In many future history books, Obama will be seen as the man that overcame the racial divide to achieve the presidency. There was a long line of people who made this all possible including Abraham Lincoln, Jackie Robinson and -- of course -- Martin Luther King's Dream.

What the history books may not show is the true story; not about a single man. It's a story about an American generation who lived with echos of racial prejudice ringing in their heads from being raised in a segregated world, yet instead looked into their hearts and changed the world.

I dream American can overcome the challenges ahead for our country, our planet and our children.

and what historical event is portrayed on the shirt? looks more like the wearer's belly is thinking of red and blue clouds.

I'm going to do the classy thing here and say "someone tooted". Just look at it with a more perverse eye.

I think the historic event is the election of a black man to be president. By combining the "Obama logo" with clouds, he's saying MLK is looking on from the great beyond at the moment, seeing his dream fulfilled.

It took me a minute to get it, though. I think it's actually a pretty cool idea.

At first I thought to myself, "Uh oh, here comes politics. This is doomed." Then I realized that you can only vote up, not down. Those who supported Obama will vote for it, those who didn't can't "anti-vote" for it. So it's got real potential.

I'm sure the comments here will get ugly, though, since those who don't like him will have no other way to tally their dislike.

Unfortunately, this is very true.

We can tattle by saying that it's not a historical event (like I already have).

Something about "change we need" would have been nice. Otherwise, I cant see people really voting for it unless they are Obama supporters

But one is not portrayed here. And there is certainly not a larger perspective of an historical event.

Aside from that, the colors could just as easily be associated with Pepsi. Without the picture of MLK in the mock-up, this looks like a cloud and nothing more.

I only really got it after i read the description, and even so I don't quite understand how this fits the theme... regardless of whether the election was a historic event. Don't get me wrong I like the idea I just wonder if it will pass rejectionator.

It is too history. He made history by becoming the first black president.

Also, to me, it looks as if WE are they eyewitnesses. Makes perfect sense to me. You guys just don't understand it, or you don't like that it's a little too political. Who cares? Don't vote for it then.

Great shirt, by the way, Parrotworks. I really like the message behind it. GMV, and good luck!

Obama becoming president is historical. This however is just branding. And there's no "eyewitness account" going on. It's just a rebranding of a brand based on the words of someone long dead and unable to observe. It's really not on theme.

As for your later idea that "we" are the eyewitnesses... Nope. What are we witnessing that wasn't reported? Everyone knows that a black president would be a huge step toward the dream King had. I'm sure that very angle was reported a million times. using this argument makes ANY entry on theme, because we're witnessing it.

No. Because there's no history being shown, and no "untold story" being shown along side it, your shirt isn't on theme. All your shirt has is a vague emblem representing a link between one long dead man and another very recently historical one. There is no attachment between the two that allows this to be on theme, and that is the only tenuous thematic link you have.

No, but it is off topic. Woot was pretty clear that they want to see something like what bystanders saw, a third-person vantage, a behind-the-scenes, a collateral damage, a man on the street view...
Again, not having read the previous post I can't speak to it specifically - that's by design since I know Adder pushes buttons. But I do agree that this shirt in no way gives a second look at a historical event.

Also, this is off-theme. How is this stepping back from a depicted event where perhaps things are more dull or wasn't recorded?

Take the time to read MLK's dream speech in completion, he had many stated dreams and the election of an African American to the presidency is not one of them. “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character”. We are all still judged & still judge others by the color of skin we all inherited. This thread and shirt makes me sad, to much that can be said.

A better platitude would be: Reading the derby theme saves you time.

Theme is up to interpretation and rejections are not consistent. High risk = high return.
