Re: Invasion
AWESSSSSOOOOMMMMEEEE!!!
Rejected because: Too bad there's text here.
Re: Invasion
Also, the orange tape seems a tad out of place. Seems like a consistent color scheme throughout the entire piece, then bam... a bright orange to steal your eyes' focus. If there were smaller doses of orange dispersed throughout the image it may have been behooving.
Regardless, still aweesooommmeee and you still got my vote.

Yeah, I had originally designed it on charcoal but changed it to olive because the Woot grey seemed too dark for the lineart to read as clearly as I was wanting. On the neutral background all three cassettes stood out about the same. Something for me to keep in mind for the next graphic I do of giant tapes attacking a city.
Thanks for the comments and vote!
Re: Invasion
Ha! The Analog Strikes Back!
I only wish somehow that they were destroying a store with an apple on it. Very creative design

Crazy part is that I had the art done on Friday but things came up and I didn't get a chance to post till tonight.
Re: Invasion
The line art is great, and I don't really mind the orange tape. However, I think some additional color would be beneficial. Unfortunately, the text is grounds for rejection. ![]()
Re: Invasion
Back in the day I worked in a music store that sold cassettes and 8-tracks as well. One reason Pink Floyd sold so many damn copies of "Dark Side of the Moon" was that the vinyl warped or got scratched, the cassettes broke, or the 8-tracks spooled out like the cassettes on this picture.
Alas, the "One Way" sign is gonna getcha.

The text isn't part of the design. Notice that it is not on the tee for placement. That's just my fancy-shmancy title.
I would wear, like, four of these at the same time. Excellent work.

Really? My understanding was incidental text was acceptable. Like words on a map that someone is holding.

shirt.woot changes their rules every derby. They will occasionally allow full text, sometimes incidental text. Mostly, though, they say no text allowed. It's written up at the top of the derby page in the rules. It gets a lot of people when they're starting. ;)

For the road trip derby that was true, but there is usually a full 'no text' rule on most derbies, including this one. This is a great design though. Very interesting!
Re: Invasion
I actually like this a lot, but it is, indeed, rejectable due to the text.
Re: Invasion
Neat contrast between the colored cassettes, city linework and ribbons of tape. Wait till the tanks roll in and start firing pirated DVDs at them.

Haha! Yes. +1.
Re: Invasion
Wow. It's been awhile since I've seen a new take on the cassette tape theme. Nice work! Really too bad the text is on there (due to the rule) - while it's nice, it's not necessary.
I'd also prefer this on heather, but olive isn't bad.

LOL at the image of the DVDs as weapons!
And I love the colors here. The black line art on olive with just the cassettes in color - very striking. And I love how the orange one draws your eye into the heart of the detail way deep in the perspective.
You could easily lose that little bit of text - the arrow alone serves as the sign.

Thanks. It would be a minor revision. I am not sure if it is possible to edit the design now that it has been submitted. I guess I'll just have fun watching how many votes I can receive before the Alphabet Police kick down the door and break up my invasion party.
Re: Invasion
Hey, this is some nice artwork! It's a shame you weren't able to enter this in sooner.
Re: Invasion
Text issue aside, this is some really solid artwork. Nice job!
Re: Invasion
Great design! Your style reminds me of Geof Darrow.

Thanks but, I don't think this piece is as detail obsessed as Darrow.

You could resubmit - there's enough time, and it's not as though it'll go through with the text anyway, so you might as well.

Haha, very true! It's just the general spirit I'm feeling.
Submissions have just closed (midday Wednesday, Texas time). But hopefully Woot will let things be and consider this for an HM. :-)

Re: Invasion
Sorry to see this rejected. Really otterific illustration and concept.

Thanks. Good luck with yours.
Re: Invasion
That's so cruel to see so many tees rejected once the submissions are already over, making it impossible to resubmit.
This one in particular...

While I agree on the face of it, the artist had been informed that they were violating the no text and had the chance to resubmit - and chose to wait it out instead. (I think, I haven't had enough caffeine yet)
Arrrgh! This one is otterific, I hope you submit it again somehow, another derby or something. Do wannnt!
Great work man
