I'd choose that monkey with a music box to follow me around playing my music instead of those other things any day!

I'm loving the red. Good choice... and I've said it before, I'll say it again. You can't go wrong with monkeys.

Nothing may beat the monkey, but doesn't mean you can't just for fun.

I seriously don't know how you do it. It would have taken me five hours just to draw that monkey!!!

Come on, baby, FOG!!! :D (i love this shirt)

This quote is funnier with the picture of an awkwardly whistling baseball in your sig.

This! Stupid work always getting in the way when I need time to draw stuff. Seriously enjoying the amount of detail in this design, bootsboots.

Always excited to see a Boots entry. Plus, I'm almost always pleased to see the shirt color you pick. I love red!

Yes! I saw the asphalt sub earlier and thought 'whyyyYYyy noooOOooOooo!'. Well maybe not that dramatic, but the red look great

Yes, yes, yessssssss! Most excellent monkey. He looks like he might be a toe-dancer, but I don't fault him for that. In fact, thanks for the image in my head of him daintily dancing around to his own music.

I'm wondering why this isn't in the fog, and my only explanation is that many wooters must have irrational fears of little dancing monkeys. It's either that or the phonograph--those things can make pretty ominous shadows in the dark.

Thanks everyone. I thought this one pretty good. I'm going to have to rework it and think of something to do with it later on. Let me know if anyone can think of a way to make it better. I feel like it's almost there, but missing something.

i think my issue with it (and this is just a little things because i love the color, concept, and execution) is that my mind wants the progression to be in the opposite order, like it starts with what came first and then what that evolved into. i understand for this derby it has to be an equation, but i wish this was subbed in a different derby so that you didnt have to bother with the equations and just had the progression of musical apparatus. i think that is also why this isnt getting as much attention as it should, its not as scientific as most of the other shirts and that is what people are looking for this week. great job though and i hope you definitely resub this for another derby.

I was trying to go for a "Back in MY day things were better! We din' need no... whatchya call 'em? Ear buddies? Yeah! Real men didn't need ear buddies! In the good old days, we listened to a MONKEY WITH A BOX and we were THANKFUL. Goddamn kids today!" sort of thing.

I kind of agree w/ megsck. I read it left to right as well. I wonder if you placed monkey first and then everything after.
i.e.:
M>AP+R+BB+WM+CD+I
just a thought.

also if monkey image had a greater presence on the design as though 12 of the design was taken up by the monkey with ">" with all the other items smaller grouped together.

I like the idea to make the monkey bigger. I was putting him last since he's the punchline. Maybe I'll see if I can think of another way to do it. Thanks.

This could be a stupid idea but what about having one of those old fashioned scales with the monkey (larger) on one side being heavier than all of the other devices stacked up on the other side, showing that the monkey is better than every other music player put together.

Oh man, that's a LOT of redesigning. Are you trying to kill me? ;) I do like the idea though.

I know it'd be a lot of work...but this is dead on, and it would look more like experimentation than just the formula laid out. I like this idea a lot!

Re: Nothing Beats the Monkey V2

Maybe you could have a X through each of the items except the monkey...and then a circle around the monkey...like you had gone through testing each of the devices and found that the monkey was the best for musical entertainment... *shrugs* I don't know if it would look any better or worse, but maybe it could have a more scientific method feel if that's the problem for voters? I don't know...

Well, I'm going to work on it some more in the future, not for this derby, so the scientific method wont have to be in there so much. I like the "X-ing" idea! I'll have to see if it works visually.

I like it much better conceptually, I'm just not convinced it would look better on the shirt. I'm going to play around with this design more in the future.

Thank y'all so much for your feedback and help.

Edit: I guess I've picked up the phrase "play around with this piece/design/etc" from other artists. It's always sounded dirty to me and makes me giggle.

Re: Nothing Beats the Monkey V2

Bigger monkey was the first thing that popped in to my head. It sort of visually conveys a concept of "greater than."

I would totally wear a shirt with nothing on but just that adorable monkey, though. Seriously nice work.

I've never thought of that phrase in a dirty way until you brought it up... and now I'm probably going to read it like that from now on. Thanks a lot. :P
