Re: 5 Second Rule

I googled "Science Myths" and everywhere i turned the 5-second rule popped up...or 10-seconds depending on how hungry you are and the deliciousness of the dropped food item. This is an observation of the secret lives of bacteria as they exist on our floors. As it turns out, they abide by the same arbitrary scientific rules that we do.

Thanks to everyone in the forum for the pre-derby response (especially OdysseyRoc and Wootvan). Cheers

This is fabulous. I just wish you made the microbes bigger. They just make the shirt. Right now, it's a little too much about the pretzel. Not that it would stop me from buying it though.

Re: 5 Second Rule

Some people say that tests have shown it actually takes closer to 30 seconds before bacteria (or whatever) get to dropped food. My response is always something like, "What if it falls in a puddle of urine?" I don't know why someone would be eating anything over a puddle of urine, but that's beside the point. The point is, after all that, I follow the 5 second rule. The execution here is amazing!

Hahahaha I like it. And I can make a tenuous connection to scientific method...but I think woot might (if they're being strict) hit you for the "countdown" because it isn't a formula and therefore not allowable text. How you'd redo without it, I have NO clue, just throwing it out there.

as always you have another awwsome entry and funny concept this week!

i do want to add however that i think i liked your initial sketch much better because you could see your fantastic character designs better. i also think i would have preffered a little simpler detail, the grain on the floor is a little overpowering for me, but i get the point that we are seeing very small and the detail adds to that.

Thank you Darquis! I'm glad you like it and I appreciate your feedback. I may be leaping through a loophole with the numbers, but my thinking was that it was within the rules. I guess we'll wait and see.

And to everyone else: i am overwhelmed with all the positive comments...especially from those in this community that churn out consistently great and inspiring work week in and week out. You all are the ones who keep me inspired and make me want to better my game every week. So...thanks.

Thanks meg(s)! It's always hard transitioning from the sketch to the final because I start questioning my initial impulses. Some stay, some don't. By the way, i wanted you to 'have' a sketch i whipped up yesterday based on your Sherlock Holmes suggestion. i really wanted to do a "Who replaced Watson with this fat guy?" shirt, but i lack the skillz to pull it off. Anyway, i got the first drawing off and decided to put it to rest. Makes me giggle though

You don't really need the numbers...it just helps process the image faster which means that it might be more likely to get the vote.

When I saw it in the pre-derby thread I didn't even see the numbers at first, and I laughed pretty hard, but it took me maybe 2 seconds to "get it". It might hurt to not have numbers...but in the off chance that it does get rejected for the ellipses submit it without numbers.

Arbitrary calorie rules are thus: any food, no matter how sweet and delicious, is zero-calorie if taken from someone else's plate. As long as you didn't order it yourself, you're in the clear. So sayeth my girlfriend.

Thanks for the vote!

Thanks! I actually debated the size of the pretzel on the shirt and figured the bacteria would be a nice surprise for anyone looking...plus it's a good excuse for people to stare at your chest. Eh? EH?

Little known fact:
The 5 second rule actually applies to the time after you SEE the food item, and everytime you blink, the clock automatically resets. For some reason, however, this law does not apply to soups or mashed potatoes, despite the fact that they are food.
The greatest scientific minds of our time have yet to figure out why this is.

Definitely got my vote.

Re: 5 Second Rule

If someone is going to illustrate the concept of the five second rule, the idea of germs attacking a piece of food on the floor seems like an idea that more than one person would come up with right out of their own head.

The amazing and unique way this is illustrated should be enough to keep it out of harms way, the germs as I said earlier are stars.( And so is that amazing pretzel!)

The Five Second Rule concept is probably old enough to be public domain. The execution on this T-shirt design is, so far as I know, completely original and brilliant. I hope it prints.
