Re: Zu Chongzhi's estimate
great graphic and color combo!
Re: Zu Chongzhi's estimate
The colors are great, the design is great, and I'm a nerd, so I would wear this shirt all the time.
Re: Zu Chongzhi's estimate
Nice work! Really clever arrangement, it's fashionable and readable and all packed into the same tight space.

worth the buy!!!

Wow! What an unexpected run-up today! I designed a shirt that I'd love to wear and usually that doesn't thrill others too much. What a happy surprise.

Your simple designs always blow me away! Great colors and design.
Re: Zu Chongzhi's estimate
I really liked this design until my partner pointed out that the 1 can't fall behind the 3 like that unless it was cut. Now I keep staring at it. But, I still kinda like it over all.

Yes, that's correct. I wasn't attempting to make something that realistic -- instead I was trying to make every number completely recognizable in a very tight space.
Re: Zu Chongzhi's estimate
one thing that ive always found interesting about woot patrons is that they are really proud of themselves for liking this number
Re: Zu Chongzhi's estimate
Nice design Robert, has a very Ugmonk feel which I like. Bold and powerful yet simple, graphically speaking. If it makes it Im in for one ![]()
otterific design.
I truly love when a woot shirt does not feature an inanimate object with a cute little face drawn on it. (seriously, take a look). Generally, the submissions are getting too cartoonish.
Best of luck!

I watched the Helvetica movie last week and was inspired to give some more love to that classic font.

Dang it! Once seen, it cannot be unseen.
I'd buy it anyway, as I generally don't go around staring at my own shirt for great lengths of time, so it [hopefully] wouldn't bug me too much ... but OCD is hard to deal with sometimes.

anyone want to do a collaboration with avogadro's number? PM me. Pi's just a touch passe at this point.
Re: Zu Chongzhi's estimate
Nice to see some classy graphic design in the derbies. I'm not crazy about the kerning on the smaller numbers, but over all a great design. You need to give yourself a BLA on this one.
odysseyroc wrote:Nice to see some classy graphic design in the derbies. I'm not crazy about the kerning on the smaller numbers, but over all a great design. You need to give yourself a BLA on this one.
Good point about the kerning -- it was more necessary in an alternate version of this I abandoned but doesn't add anything right now.
thatrobert wrote:Good point about the kerning -- it was more necessary in an alternate version of this I abandoned but doesn't add anything right now.
To specify, I don't mind the tracking, but the kerning on the first two numbers looks odd compared to the rest. You have all the numbers butting up against each other, but the 1 and 5 seem pretty far apart. Again, a small nitpick for such a great design.

Too bad math isn't science. It's the language of science.
Hammylink wrote:Too bad math isn't science. It's the language of science.
The way Pi was discovered was precisely the scientific method: mathematicians observed, made a hypothesis, and then either proved or disproved their theory.
If the theme was "science" and not "scientific method", I might agree with you.

True, but this shirt, well executed while it may be, does not detail that method. It is just a number on a shirt. That makes it science at best, and not really the scientific method. It's definitely off-topic, but hey, at least it's well done and not blatantly pandering.

Not specifically but I do like his stuff.

I see your point but this (and many other entries) are showing the results/verification of the scientific method.
Re: Zu Chongzhi's estimate
going for the win!!!!
I am sooo buying this shirt!!!
Re: Zu Chongzhi's estimate
Yes! This fogged while I was in school! I also noticed the "1" covering up the "3," and while it does seem a bit off, your reasoning for wanting all of the numbers to be easily recognizable makes a lot of sense. If someone does get reeeally picky about it, just tell them that there's a slit in the "3" in which the "1" goes. Fingers crossed for a print.

As you admit, it's the result of scientific method, not the process of. I think that makes it off topic, but I really do like the design. Best of luck.
You are a pro with font, bro.

Re: Zu Chongzhi's estimate
Love the concept, love the design.
However, I think the shirt would look better if the imprint were much smaller. For me, as it is, I want to see it even larger and see what happens when it takes over the entire shirt.

This must win so I can buy it.
I don't see "Scientific Method" here... no more than the E=mc^Pi shirt, which was rejected. True, that shirt is wrong, but being a scientist, I can tell you that the scientific method mainly consists of being wrong...

So simple yet downright artistic! How everything fits together is like an abstract puzzle. I love it!

Fantastic! I would definitely wear this either way, but if you could get that done, this shirt would be even better. Still 12 more hours to rack up some votes!

Re: Zu Chongzhi's estimate
I want this shirt to win. Personally, its not for me; however, I like variety. I hope it wins and stays in the reckoning for a bit, so when I tell my friends about woot, they have options when it comes to purchasing. Seeing "cute" stuff over and over in the reckoning has seemed to turn my friends (yes, even my female friends) away from this site in time.
Edit: Not all successful pieces in the reckoning are "cute" design, but most are. I am just saying that this bring variety, filling a design gap that isn't currently present. Variety Rules!

Maybe not graphically intense, but this is a coherent design that is VERY wearable.
