Agreed, the doll looks great ![]()
Re: Revenge is MIne
Thanks guys
If anyone's curious, I actually got the doll's texture by scanning an old pair of jeans, haha.
Re: Revenge is MIne
Have any detail images? Would love to see up close how you did it.
Re: Revenge is MIne
If that is indeed a print ready texture, then that is just simply amazing!
Rock on!

Sure, no problem:
It looks more complicated from far away than it is up close. I have a solid tan as the background, and a pattern of darker brown over the top to give the burlap effect. On top of that, some black halftones create shadows.
When I work with halftones, I do a couple of things that I hope make them easier to print:
- I use them in areas that also have a lot of other texture happening. This way, even if some of the smaller dots drop out or the larger ones merge a bit, it just adds to the overall grungy effect.
- I save the gradient layers as well, just leaving them turned off in Photoshop. That way if I'm a bit off in my sizing, I can just make a new set of halftones without much extra work.
Just for fun, here's that jean texture (warning: it's a bit large) if anyone wants to play around with it ![]()

Thanks for sharing your secret! It's always fun to read how other artists go through the process of creating.
Re: Revenge is MIne
Thats freakin amazing! As others have said the texture is phenominal. thanks also for the process. It be neat to see how many of the artist do what they do. +1
Re: Revenge is MIne
Wonderful!!!!
Re: Revenge is MIne
This is good but what does it have to do with the Halloween topic?
be10der2me wrote:This is good but what does it have to do with the Halloween topic?
Here's what Woot asked for:
"So in preparation for Halloween we're asking you to design the greatest Halloween shirt ever. Maybe it's a shirt you can wear as your costume, maybe it's a macabre depiction of horror, or maybe it's your usual cute shiny thing stuffed into a witch's hat. Please don't let it be that last one."
My design depicts a Voodoo Doll, come to life and poised to exact revenge. This is something that also happens in horror movies, so it should be well within Woot's guidelines.

How does it *not* fit under the stated theme?

Really? I apologize but I don't see that at all. Looks like the gingerbread from Shrek with indigestion, possibly he snatched a piece from the game of LIFE and tucked it under his arm.
I really like the texture but I think you may have spent too much time on perfecting the denim/burlap effect and the rest of the art suffered.
Voodoo is a religion and I didn't think woot promoted religious persecution.
I like a lot of your work but this is one I have to pass on, I hope you understand.
Good luck with your entry and I wish you the best!

Just want to clarify this: it's not religious persecution, at all. While the term voodoo doll references the religion, the dolls themselves are actually a folk custom not exclusive to any spiritual belief. In fact, wikipedia seems be saying it's not a real facet of Voodoo at all.
Sorry you didn't dig the style on the doll ![]()

I don't think this word means what you think it means.
Re: Revenge is MIne
This is neat +1
Re: Revenge is MIne
i like the texture i may use it some time... this shirt is super sweet!
Re: Revenge is MIne
Around here, Voodoo Dolls are the latest fad for the 7-10 year olds; kids beg their parents for a "toonie" everytime they go to the grocery store to get one from the vending machine. My daughter and her friends would sooooo love to own and wear this shirt year-round!

You have a decidedly odd take on this. Puzzling. Interesting, but puzzling.
