It's hard to see, you're right, it's just foreshortened and almost overlapping another leg. I tried to make each of the (21) spiders look different in motion. ^_^

Alright, I had a feeling that was what it was... as I said before, when you put up your "rough sketch," which wasn't so rough, this is your best work I've seen so far!

@amyjo910 and frik, thanks guys!

@megsck, I know what you're talking about. A piece of fluff stuck to my bare arm when I was drawing the 20th or so spider and couldn't shake it off me fast enough. :p

This came out really well spiritgreen - I am not spider fan, but they look pretty darn good for spiders! They really look like they are crawling up the shirt, great job with the highlights and shadows.

It could be that the 8th one fell off and is still in the cookie. That only makes the whole thing creepier.

I cringed when I saw this shirt. It fits the theme the best and makes for a really cool shirt.

The problem I have with this design is: Black widow spiders don't have the tell-tale hour glass shape on their backs. It's on the underside of their abdomen.

The ones I've seen in the wild, living in Florida for a while, had the red hourglass on their undersides. There's nothing like looking at one up close through a pool screen, they're so perfectly black and glossy with the blood red marking.

There are types of black widows that have the hourglass up on their backs, though :

The design is slightly stylized, but I made sure I wasn't taking too many liberties with it. :^)

This is a shirt I'd never wear, let alone buy, just because it creeps me out so much. I'm going to vote for it anyways though, because it's very clever and does a wonderful job at capturing this week's theme.

Nice job and it is quite creepy. I have always wanted to make misfortune cookies, without the spiders of course. :D

This really creeps me out. I am so afraid of spiders hiding in things, waiting to leap out and kill me. I'll never eat fortune cookies again! I don't think I'd buy this shirt because of that but I like the design a lot so... +1

This is true but don't you get your lotto numbers and learn chinese from a paper fortune inside instead of a plethora of black poisonous spiders?
Lets call this a time to be willing to suspend disbelief and allow the artist his artistic licensing.

Great job on this again Spirit. The only thing I would say is that it still isn't super clear that it's a fortune cookie. Maybe if it had another, unbroken one next to it that people could more easily indentify. Other then that great, and freaky concept.

It definitely looked like a fortune cookie to me. But perhaps for those who were having issues, showing a little bit of the fortune paper sticking out would be good...?

I actually did consider having a slip of paper in there. It's a nice idea but I would have had to use a brighter highlight color on the spideys in order to make paper, and I didn't like the look of that. It also seemed like the bugs should be the contents, that's the misfortune you get instead of a regular fortune.

I looked at a lot of reference pics of fortune cookies, whole and broken, to get this shape. I feel like it's pretty clear what it is but I will probably take another shot at it the next time I get an actual fortune cookie in my hands. ^_^

Thanks for the feedback, everyone.

Yeah. I totally didn't even realize that there were widows with red on the top. Saw the rest of the thread and stand corrected.

Voted, because I would wear this. I'm one of those weirdos that finds spiders fascinating. I've even kept a black widow as a "pet" before in a bottle.

...

...and yeah, everything black widows is vile and creepy, even by spider standards. Their webs are chaotic and appalling. They can kill you with a single bite (under the right circumstances). It just keeps going.
