These would be superb action figures. Batman is the best! And this concept makes me smile... what's lurking in the back of your mind?... BTW, still waiting on my coffee stain cats to arrive! =)

Not sure this is going to fly. There's not really any parody.

LOL! Oh, you don't want to know all the things that lurk around in my head. Gets kind of scary up in there. Thanks for ordering Coffee Stain Cats! I think the print turned out great and really hope you enjoy it.

Hi, Kyle. The parody is that the man who looks like a human spider isn't really a spider so he doesn't really need to fear bug spray. I thought bug spray was a good punchline. Thanks for checking out my design! I had a lot of fun drawing it.

I get what you tried to do. But all of those characters are owned and I'm not sure your shirt qualifies as enough of parody to allow woot to get away with it.

I left off all the logos because I know they definitely don't fly. I remember when this one got rejected for a logo and then ended up printing when it was resubbed without it. http://shirt.woot.com/Derby/Entry.aspx?id=41258

I hear what you're saying, though, and appreciate the critique.

The difference is that one is not superman. His costume is actually that of Wonder Woman. BUT your costumes are generic so it might fly.

True enough, but the reason that one got rejected was because of the WonderWoman logo on the costume Superman was wearing. http://shirt.woot.com/Derby/Entry.aspx?id=41160

I was kind of hoping the genericness (is that a word?) of the costumes would be ok with woot. That and the fact that superheroes just aren't this cute and adorable. We shall see!

It's all good. Whatever happens happens. I have a million other silly ideas in my head. I better get started on them!

As a comic book fan I'm slightly offended by the shirt as it's quite inconsistent and highly inaccurate. Yes superman is theoretically scared of kryptonite but batman is no longer scared of bats only as a child was he scared, I have no idea why the green lantern would be scared of the sun that makes no sense and finally spiderman the only semi-joke i see in the shirt...

well i think its he is supposed to be scared of yellow, (yes that flaw is gone now), but many non-nerd people still think hes afraid of yellow so I get it at least. I don't think the sun looks good though... But yeah I just don't feel it either, batman was only scared by the bats as a kid so i would think its more he just has bats on the brain than a fear thing, so yeah people on the street would be like "okay batman has bats on the mind, why does green lantern think of suns?" i dont know that without the "phobia" message being given to me before hand i would understand this shirt... And the figures are REALLY close to the Funko line of figures and plushies coming out now....

Well, I was shooting for a cross between Fisher Price Little People heads and paper cutout dolls holding hands bodies, only not the holding hands part. This is the first time I have ever seen those figures, but they are super cute! Do you know where I can buy them?

Re: Even Superheroes Have Phobias

Despite the fact this wouldn't fly because of copyright (batman is fiercely protected), the idea is cute, but drawn really sloppily.

But then again, I feel the same way about a lot of high placing woot shirts (Pandamonium??)

No advertising, pls.

Hi, David. I just wanted you to know how much I enjoy your @-@ shirt! I'm a huge Star Wars fan and receive many compliments whenever I wear it.

I actually spent many hours on this design from start to finish which is why it wasn't ready to go at the very start of the derby. I'm always interested in tips for improving my technique. If you could give some advice to those of us just getting started like myself and no1, what would it be? Maybe an insight into your creative process? It's always a cool thing to see artists sharing their advice in this community.

Not to mention Spiderman and Batman/Superman/GL don't exist on the same plane of existence. From a personal standpoint I find it hard to buy off on something like this. Also - the title of the derby is "Phobias" but if you look at this shirt out of the "phobias" context it really makes no sense, as I think was previously mentioned as well (i.e. too lazy to do much more than scan the comments) i think it's tought to follow.

Unfortunately, I also think the drawings (although admittedly much better than I could ever do) are in the hazy middleground between good drawings and intentionally crude.

Normally, I'm the reason why there's a 'no star wars' 'no video games' and i'm sure soon 'no comic books' rule, but I don't think I can sign off on this one.

If the punch line was intended to be the can of bug spray, you could consider the other heroes all being afraid of the same thing (i.e. shared thought bubble): maybe just a generic shrouded enemy or a host of supervillains, it would give more punch to the spiderman "fear", and i think it would also lend itself to a less contextual response, and maybe simplify the drawings to make them more of a parody.

Actually, due to the mutliverse concept employed by both DC and Marvel, not to mention JLA/AVengers, they do.

Great design, absolutely stab it! Unfortunately i can't vote (i haven't bought a shirt yet) but i really hope this gets through so i can make my first purchase. I disagree with the criticism of Batman's fear, as it is something that most people know of and deep down somewhere that fear still exists (bats seem to be a common occurrence in the drug induced nightmares Scarecrow provides). Although personally i believe that a can of yellow paint would work better than the sun for Green Lantern. Best of luck!

That's funny because I was initially going to draw a banana instead of the sun, but my Green Lantern obsessed son told me that was a stup1d idea and I should draw the sun. It's all HIS fault! LOL! Thanks for liking my superdudes! Oh, and if you need to buy a shirt to vote, you can buy my "Coffee Stain Cats"! I'm sure there is someone out there who would luv it as a gift. :D Save the kitties! Don't let them get Reckoned!

I really like this design. I admit that I did not get the green lantern one (maybe I'm not nerdy enough?), but all the others made me smile. I also think the slightly immature drawing style works, I like that it looks like something I would doodle in a boring class.

FWIW, it doesn't have to be a shirt purchase. You can purchase from any Woot site (except Deals where you're purchasing through other retailers).

Except for sellout which is woot, but sells through deals.

It's funny you say that. I had wolverine in my initial sketch with a phobia of magnets, but it was too many guys on the shirt. Unfortunately, wolverine did not make the cut. Glad you still like it!

I think this is neat, but I realized I am not enough of a nerd! I did not get the green lantern reference. The only thing that seems jarring to me is 3 out of 4 have the round eyes, and then spidey stands out. I mean I know his costume is that way, so it makes sense, but visually it kinda threw me

Also, off topic, so sorry to threadjack, but I got the coffeestain cat shirt in the mail and it looks great! I now have the purrfect gift for my hard to shop for Aunt

That's fan.tastic! I hope your aunt enjoys the shirt. Sadly, it will be reckoned at midnight so if anyone else wants it, this is your last chance.

As for Spidey, I kind of liked that he looked different than the other three guys. Ah well, I had fun making it.

Re: Even Superheroes Have Phobias

I don't mean to poke holes in a fogged design just to be mean, but this seems to be the best place for my frustration.
Once more with feeling: a fear is NOT a phobia. The Batman phobia involving bats is a legit reference, more or less - assuming it causes him to react irrationally and have physical symptoms.
But the others? No, they have justifiable fear involving objects that can kill them (though the Spidey one is a stretch even on that basis).
NOT phobias.
>sigh< Sorry. This derbyis frustrating me no end for some reason. I get the joke. Cute. But like most entries, off-topic.
Oh, well, what ever. Even my favorite in this derby, tjost and bass's entry, is only marginally on theme if you look beyond the obvious 'Miss Muffet' to the broader topic.

Oh, really? I was thinking about getting this shirt if it comes out on woot as Christmas presents for my brother and his little boy, but my brother is a huge comic fan. So, I don't know if he'd like this shirt or not. Oh, by the way people saying nerd this and nerd that, my brother was a football player and married one of the popular cheerleaders and he loved comic books, still does. Cute shirt by the way, I thought it was very cute with the superheros and their little fears. My favorite one is Spiderman and his fear of bugspray, I could have died when I seen that.
