Re: When I Grow Up V.2

Based on some feedback (thanks!), here is another version that might make more sense without the title. Maybe?

Acorn wants to grow up and be an oak tree.

Little squirrel wants to grow up and become a chef and cook the acorn.

I love this and it's much better than the first one but what the hell happened to the squirrel's arms???

Cute, and much better than the first version. But, while I know acorns are a fall thing, the colors here really don't speak to that season at all.

I have to agree, squirrels don't sit like dogs on their haunches with their front paws down, so it just looks like the squirrel has no arms.

I actually like the other one better and think that the message is clear enough, I think a version with a caterpillar and butterfly instead of the grasshopper would make the message extremely clear if you were afraid it isn't clear enough, though I think it is.

Re: When I Grow Up V.2

Jasneko, I´m aware that you became one of the popular designers here, and that means you´ll always have a lot of people voting on your designs for that reason alone, regardless of what you submit. You also seem to have enough free time available to work on your designs, at least seeing the amount of work you submit every week. So, it really puzzles me how you can submit a design with a squirrel drawn in a way that makes no sense at all. If he was standing on his back legs, like on your design, the front ones would never be touching the ground. Besides that, looking at the contour, and presuming it is seen on profile, there´s is only the right one, while the left is just completely missing...
Drawing in a cute style doesn´t mean you can draw whatever you want, the way you want, at least if you want it to be believable.
Please don´t take this criticism the wrong way. Altough not being a fan of your style, I respect what you do and what you achieved here at Woot.

Re: When I Grow Up V.2

@kushalm and mindputtee on the squirrel - Didn't realize it looked weird! D'oh. I've done a LOT of squirrel watching, and I was sure I've seen squirrels sit like that. Squirrels have their arms up are when they are eating, and since I didn't want that, I put the arms down. Kind of a cross between this and this. Imagine that 2nd squirrel putting his arms down. They look long enough to reach the ground. I could be mistaken but I feel like I've seen this pose - perhaps with the legs not quite so close to the body and the body a little less upright.

If this were earlier and I realized it looked weird to people, I would have definitely changed it though so there was no confusion. Hope you can still enjoy the design!

@paigeg - True, they aren't typical fall colors. But tree floors are usually littered with browns and greens in the form of acorns in early autumn, so I thought they could also work.

@chunkydesign - I'm totally fine about your comments about the the squirrel. I saw other posts about it and was planning to respond. But why all the other assumptions? If you follow me as closely as you seem to believe you do, you should know that I pay close attention to feedback and try to improve designs whenever possible. I'm not sure why you decided you thought you knew about my attitude about drawing, that people vote for my designs no matter what I submit, my free time etc etc.
"I respect what you do"--> not really feeling it.

Sorry to understand that from what I said, you think I don´t respect your work. But that´s your opinion and you´re entitled to it.
Regarding feedback I don´t recall saying you didn´t take that into account. This design proves that you do. You made a submission and based on what others said, reworked it, and submited a different version. But what I criticised shouldn´t need feedback to be done better, it´s a basic flaw on your design, and for someone with the amount of sucess you have on Woot´s derbys, I think you should be more critical about your own work and set an higher standard for yourself. As for being popular, I think this design and the number of votes it got, in such a short time, is a much clear evidence of that, than anything I could write.
So, to finish, let me just wish you the best of luck for the rest of the derby, it´s obvious that a lot of people likes it the way it is, so who am I to criticise...
