When returning to your igloo after searching all day out on the tundra for a festive tree, double-check it's not going to eat you.

Oh, I meant to add that the two constellations in the sky are Ursa Major (the bear) and Orion (the hunter). This is not at all important, unless it is.

Was the bear's eye open in the prethread or did i just notice it? Its a really nice touch. And again, great work!

Nice. Even though we can't see the guy's face, I can almost imagine his expression.

And the bear's open eye, didn't notice that at first. Nice touch.

You mean, the first image result for "Bear Igloo"? Because if you're surprised that your search for "Bear igloo" came up with a bear igloo, I have no idea how to help you.

@sefjwm, hmmm. I always search for shirts to make sure an idea hasn't been done before, and avoid the 'similar shirts exist' red stamp of death. I certainly don't look through cartoon stock galleries. :-/

I don't know if that painted bear drawing would be an issue for Woot or not. I hope not as I thought I'd found a rare original idea here, and my execution is different.

Your design serves the idea so well Spiritgreen. The over-the-shoulder angle leads the viewer in very nicely and the small touches like the stars and the bear's expression top it off.

Re: The Hungry Igloo

I love that the eskimo is realistically coloured - i.e. his skin tone - but if you noted that detail, why did you decide to make him Christian/European culturally, since the Innuits didn't have Christmas trees?

It would have been really impressive if you'd found an appropriately indigenous way to convey festivity. Not that the focal point of your design is much about holidays anyway. :\

I hate to be critical bc you seem like a really nice person and you're a good artist (if not to my tastes), so I hope you find my criticism constructive - at least towards the future - and not merely mean.

I appreciate your thoughts fairynymph!

I found this kinda surprising myself, but the Inuits are predominantly Christian these days. I did some research on their traditions and beliefs before drawing this because I really do like to slip as many observations into my designs as I can. Inuit mythology mostly revolved around animist deities, spirits of the weather and sea or polar bears, but they've been mainly replaced by the march of Christianity.

So a festive tree seemed appropriate rather than the carving of a totem or something like that. I made sure my igloos were built in the traditional spiral fashion too. ^__^

Re: The Hungry Igloo

Great job on this. Kinda a bummer to see that cartoon already done, but I know that's not the first one to do something along these lines too. I don't think you were trying to rip anything and unlike some previous artists on here even if you used it as a base of inspiration you made it your own, changed the central idea a bit, changed compostion layout and perspective and in general did a better job then the shown previous work. We'll let Woot decide on it's merit though. Keep it up and I would suggest doing some quick searches during conceptualization to save you some hassle in the future

Just a repeat of a previous comment: you're an expression master, and I looove your stuff more and more every week. The open eye on the bear is such a nice touch. If his face was any more expressive, he would give himself away. So it's just perfect the way it is

I had wondered about that - since many indigenous peoples have been converted to Christianity or Islam due to colonization - but I assumed (and perhaps incorrectly) that the In(n)uits didn't still live in igloos by the time they had taken up Christianity. If they did, then props on your very thorough research. I have to admit I have no idea what their major holidays were/are.

Thanks for the response!

I love this shirt, I really do. I even voted for it but part of me is afraid its going to get rejected. I know your little Inuit guy is dragging a Christmas tree but how does this depict why you're excited about the holidays or what you love most about the holidays? I don't know, maybe I'm missing the big point. I hope I am because like I said I really do love this shirt. Great artwork and execution!
