Re: White Nosed Reindeer
I certainly hope this places because I've got money set aside for one or two. This is a very nice design, love it. ![]()
Re: White Nosed Reindeer
Sweeet, lovely work, Jimiyo. This is a beautiful shirt for the season!
Re: White Nosed Reindeer
Ooooooh, I hope this gets in the top three because I think I just found my new Christmas shirt!!
Re: White Nosed Reindeer
Not a huge fan of the imagery used here, since a Christmas themed tee is not something I would wear, but this is really well done.
Re: White Nosed Reindeer
well, lookie here.....
good to see your work again, Jimi!
Re: White Nosed Reindeer
Well done, but I've already seen too many holiday shirts over the recent derbies. I'm also pushing for more hand done cross-hatching shirts to win.
Re: White Nosed Reindeer
Honestly the crosshatching is so fine it doesn't feel like "real" crosshatching. To me, halftones aren't pointillism and this isn't hatching.

It looks like halftones in the form of a line rather than a dot. Completely misses the spirit of the derby.

unfortunately people will go for this instead of original artistry.. not knocking the work.. just imho hatching is much more than this.

and artistry is much more than just doodling.
consider these things:
use of negative space
delicate weighting of deer and moon (and other elements) as multiple focal points to balance the compositional weight to specifically look right for the tshirt canvas
layered levels of shading using varied line widths and varied angles to create the illusion of space
;)

Thanks!
GF12 aka Geekfactor12 aka MJ aka Vonplatypus recruited me since MJ thought crosshatching would be within my realm of interest. The last time they did a similar theme was the only other time I won a derby. Fingers crossed.
Re: White Nosed Reindeer
Well done just not for me

I think all those elements are in your work, but what the others are commenting on is the theme itself. The design and quality rocks hard! its just that the use of halftones really isn't in spirit with the theme. Walzaman in the prederby thread had a design as well which rocked but had halftoning just like you have here and was advised not to sub it due to no halftones. Only handdrawn or digital hatching for the tablet-files.

I think that the use of line here is more in the spirit of the derby than Walmazan's was. I think Jimiyo used them more in the way that a lot of the old time comics artists would use zip-a-tone patterns. I think this was done in a very slick way and wouldn't be easily repeated with a couple of quick clicks. I'm not sure that I'd buy or wear this shirt, but it's beautifully done and shows some great technique.
Re: White Nosed Reindeer
I'm always attracted to designs that use negative space. I love the white on red and think this would make a terrific winter shirt.
Re: White Nosed Reindeer
Shirts don't get any Christmassier than this.
I know it's technically non-denominational, it's a generally festive shirt, but it feels like pure cherry red, Christmas day to me. ^__^
Awesome work jimiyo.
Re: White Nosed Reindeer
Same jimiyo of TeeFury?
Good use of negative space. Clean composition.
Believe I've never owned a bright red tee, maybe on crimson? Nice!

yes. jimiyo of Teefury.
same uniique thats has a print at Teefury coming up? ;)
Crimson would have been nice. I didnt know they had it until I saw someone else's submission was on it, well... burgundy... or whatever you call dark red.
Re: White Nosed Reindeer
BEAUTIFUL work <3
Love the white nose, and that background is perfect.
Re: White Nosed Reindeer
Looks fantastic! I want this shirt. Hope it wins!
Re: White Nosed Reindeer
Wonderful, I wish I could vote!
Re: White Nosed Reindeer
This looks great. It may not be fully hand-drawn cause of the use of filters or halftones or whatever, but it definitely looks time-consuming and complex. Definitely can't do this with just a few simple filters in 5 minutes.

The time put into it doesn't change the on-theme-ness. I'm not saying this is or isn't. I don't understand the computer illustration stuff like half-tones so I have no idea whether or not this is on topic.

^----- this.
Also, this is amazing.
Re: White Nosed Reindeer
If the "spirit" of the derby is to create things by hand, I have to admit, I used a computer and Photoshop.
Re: White Nosed Reindeer
Do people besides librarians and your Aunt Ethel actually wear seasonal tees?
Re: White Nosed Reindeer
Congratulations on winning a Artistically Unique Award on The Fold!
This is not SPAM.
