"Rosebud..." - Charles Foster Kane, Citizen Kane

Want this so much
Re: Rosebud
Knowing your talent for natural designs, I predicted this. It's a good amount cooler than I was expecting though!
Pretty inventive layout too. Wearable. Fashionable. All the -ables. :p
Re: Rosebud
"Rosebud" = singular.
Your shirt = plural, as in more than one.
Besides, this is really boring and literal.

There is only one rose bud in the piece, as per the quote.

Ah. I see now. The red is a bud. My mistake.

youre kidding right? its beautiful! i would wear it in a heart beat, and i dearly hope there are enough people with good taste on this site to make sure it wins.
Re: Rosebud
I don't really like the unneccesary smudges around the edges or the weird whispiness of the rosebud's stem. It takes away from the design in my opinion.
Also, this isn't much of a reinterpretation. The quote was "Rosebud" and you just drew a rosebud... Granted the quote refers to a sled (spoiler alert :o), but nonetheless not very creative.

While we are critiquing, thanks for the spoiler alert after the spoil. I think that takes away from the the alert in "spoil alert" (in my opinion).
Re: Rosebud
I think this'll come out looking more like simply "You've got red on you."
Re: Rosebud
This is awesome. I love that it's a shirt that a girl can wear, but it's not covered in bows or anything. Very smexeh if I do say so myself! Nice work, Kdeuce!
Re: Rosebud
Fantastic design. Unfortunately, too feminine for me to wear. Still getting a vote though.
I would wear this shirt everywhere! Citizen Kane is one of the best movies ever made plus I dont think alot of the corporate/sporty zombies out there would get it which adds a bit of sweetner behind the shirt.
Re: Rosebud
This is beautiful in such dark, smoldery way. I love how the rosebud looks like a glowing heart beneath the roses (showing it worn shows the perfect placement). The darkness gives a sort of shiver to the whole message. To me it seems as if the glow/light/ember of the "heart/rosebud" is bringing life/love back to something once beautiful but now almost dead.
That's a way "over-think" haha, but what I saw at first glance!
I want to buy a bunch of these! They would make awesome gifts (and 1 for me). Vote for this one!

quality post.
Re: Rosebud
I havn't seen a design I would like to "wear" in a long time, this GMV.
solusumbra wrote:"its his sled! there, i just saved you two long, boobless hours."
The funny thing is half the people who don't know this quote, can watch the movie and not realize it's the sled.
dordee wrote:Wow, way to be a jerk.
I'm impartial to the design, myself, but you're just being a d*ck.
Seconded. Wow. >:{
Re: Rosebud
The reason I don't like this shirt is because it's not that great... It looks too simplistic... It's one of those shirts that you know will win on woot but doesn't really deserve to... when other artists actually put more effort into their's... It just reminds me of something that belongs mass produced and shoved in the Wally World "trying to look cool" tee section... not on woot...
and to those that might say I'm being a d*ck... *shrug* I'm merely stating my opinion of the design... you don't have to agree with me
Re: Rosebud
I like the design. My only issue is that I do not think it will turn out very well with woot printing. I have bought a couple shirts that I just loved on my computer screen, only to be pretty disappointed when they arrive because it just didn't look right.
I would suspect everything but the rose will be invisible from any semblance of distance after the first couple washing and then you will be stuck with a shirt that has a red blob on it.
Other than that, I will stay out of the flame war that is obviously about to begin.
Re: Rosebud
So far, this is the only wearable shirt in this derby.
Good job!
frik wrote:The funny thing is half the people who don't know this quote, can watch the movie and not realize it's the sled.
do you guys really not recognize that line from family guy? peter says that when he tapes over the movie.
Re: Rosebud
I love the subtle style, but not a fan of the smudged/blurred centerpiece. However, it's fogged for a reason. People like it! I like it too.
kdeuce wrote:"Rosebud..." - Charles Foster Kane, Citizen Kane
Gorgeous gorgeous shirt!! I love the way it looks like it's glowing red, and your use of the space! Will definitely buy. :D
byrbwr wrote:bravo. way to take a movie quote that allows you to turn in another piece of abstract garbage that everyone will drool over.
this is pathetic in every way something can be pathetic. this is a derby for movie quotes and you have somehow managed not only to make a generic design with a rose on it that could have been made weeks (if not months) in advance due to the generic nature of it, but you've also managed to con the unwashed masses into voting it into the fog.
i wish i could say i was disappointed; but i'm not. this is why shirt.woot will never be taken seriously, and this is why you will never be viewed as more than a t-shirt artist. pathetic.
bravo. way to not make a single positive post for the whole derby. your comments are pathetic in every way something can be pathetic. you have managed to somehow make generic insults that could have been written weeks, if not months in advance due to the generic nature of them. I wish I could say I was disappointed, but I'm not. This is why you will never be viewed as more than a third rate adder wannabe.
Hell, I'm not even particularly fond of this entry, but all you're doing is skating on everything in a manner that isn't even conducive to improvement. Go back to your bridge.

Miserable much?
Re: Rosebud
Is this a black shirt with gray ink on it, or an asphalt shirt with black ink?
kdeuce wrote:"Rosebud..." - Charles Foster Kane, Citizen Kane
While this shirt isn't my style (it seems too trendy/Ed Hardyish to me), I would like to see more shirts like this on Woot. Many of these shirts that win look like a sticker slapped onto a t-shirt. While I do have many shirts like that, I also like large designs that seem to be more a part of the shirt. I don't know if I'm doing a good job describing it but I like that element in this design.
Re: Rosebud
WAAAAAAANT.
I, too, am a tad worried about how it will come out in printing, though.

Probably something like "Looks like you got something red on that dusty-looking shirt of yours."

this is nice and way more wearable than 90% of all shirts ever posted. these are T-SHIRTS people!!! not art for your wall or gallery. might I suggest you look at the reckoning page and see what really gets printed... not artsy-fartsy stuff. THESE ARE T-SHIRTS!

Yup. You are. What do you do for a living? I'm willing to bet creativity ranks very low in your line of work.
This looks very comprehensive, and while I'm not one to want to get this I can still appreciate the effort put into this and not be a complete jerk about it.
Re: Rosebud
I'd like to buy one of these for my wife!

I'm actually an art student and from the looks of this shirt I could make a few generic rose stamps in grey and then spray black over the outer ones to make it look faded... lastly crudely paint in a rosebud and add some red for a glow effect....
