Re: Music Roots
Substitute cassette tape for the tree and done? This is your same exact idea. It was boring last time and it's even more boring this time since memory doesn't fade that quickly.

Re: Music Roots
I have to agree that it does immediately bring Fractal Tree to mind. Not sure if that's a good thing.

I actually think it looks great and just because it looks kinda similar to his tree shirt doesn't mean it's the exact same idea. The fact that the tape from the cassette is making the roots is pretty ingenious and in my opinion makes the cassette seem even more "retro". I like it. In for 1 if it wins.
Re: Music Roots
Pretty cool, I think people expect better from an artist that has succeeded, but at least you didn't draw a PENGUIN!
Re: Music Roots
This is just one chump's opinion, but if the ink work (the marker brushed stuff) was darker and it was on a lighter shirt, I think this design would be far more successful. At the moment, I really like the design, but the colors and values make it seem duller than it really is... if that makes sense.
Re: Music Roots
reminds me an awful lot of your other designs, in a bad way. If the roots weren't made to look like roots and instead was kept to be the film (?) then I could see this as being more successful.

I would have loved to see this idea executed better, and on a different colored shirt, but the concept is groovy!

I love and will continue to love the fractal tree shirt, despite the poor reputation it apparently has (which is baffling to me). in fact, it was that shirt which got me started with woot.
that said, this does not appeal to me.
Re: Music Roots
I really like this design, though I also see the resemblance to Fractal tree. (Mostly the color scheme and the plant theme, because when I look at it closer, it's really too short to be a tree.) The calligraphy-pen look to the lines really works quite well, and it's perfect for the tape.
Some suggestions to improve it:
I second those that suggested putting it on a lighter color tee. That way you could darken up the color of the plant/cassette/roots, since right now they feel really pale and faded (maybe that was your intention I suppose) but I think it would look great if they had some pop to them.
Instead of having the roots branching and curling individually, like real roots, it would be AWE SOME if it was one long connected string of tape that curled up and down and wiggled to look like roots. Plus, that would have the added advantage of being true to every time I ever pulled a cassette out of a jammed tape player...
What about reducing or changing the colored bars (amp bars?) on the bottom so that you had one extra color to work with, and made the tape roots dark brown, and then the plants and cassette another color? That would probably work best on a different shirt color, but if the brown was dark enough, would work on brown too, imo.
Good luck!

Love it. Way to go!

Agree with this.
