Re: Tears and Light

"That gracious thing, made up of tears and light." -Samuel Taylor Coleridge (for a rainbow)

Tears and Light seemed a fitting description of music as well, tying them together (at least in my mind).

Ooo, classy. ^_^
One question: is the shirt color supposed to be maroon or brown? The background/thumbnail look maroon, but the shirt looks brown. Or is it just my screen?

Thank you! I love rainbow-colored things and have wanted to do a rainbow design for a while.

Love the design, but as a female, the placement of the record concerns me slightly. Concentric circles in the chest area can be a little awkward. ;) Still, GMV.

Also being female, I completely understand. I tried to place the record high enough so that it's sitting on top of the area of concern (bottom edge around armpit level), as opposed to directly over. But since it's incredibly unlikely to print, if I resubmit somewhere else, I might end up making the linework slightly more diagonal or curved to be able to move the record up some.

The only thing I would add is to try to match the Woot Brown shirt color in your thumbnail as it is really a warm, rich brown that is downright gorgeous! Love my Mandala Season.

I wouldn't change it if I were you; it works well as a vertical piece. Judging by the mock-up, it looks high enough to not be a problem.

Parts I liked: the organic feel, the way you incorporated the staff into the rainbow, your attention to music theory, as seen in the repeat and the use of bass clef and non-note musical notations (rests, fermata, etc.) the warmth of the colors, especially paired with the brown, the new little details I see every time that keep it interesting past the initial "pretty!" and the balance despite all of the above. Whew. Sorry for the long sentence.

Anyway, just my two cents. Good luck, keep climbing, and here's to an honorable mention if you don't get high enough!

Thanks! Yeah, one of the reasons I didn't get this submitted sooner was trying to remember non-note musical notations that were "pretty" but also flowed into the design...that and fiddling in Inkscape for the linework (so easy to spend hours and hours on it!).

This is really lovely, gmv definitely. Unfortunately, it's not in the fog and voting will be closing soon. *sad face* For that reason, do let me know if it prints elsewhere? I would like that very much. ;)
