Clearly the designs biffo is objecting to (this one & one by ramyb) in this derby are not meant to represent real actions & are going for the humor that science fairs inspire. That being said, I can't wear a shirt (or vote for one) that has such a gleeful lack of decency, implied or otherwise.

Re: The RYB color model
What makes this funny is that we get to see the moments prior to the action. Sure it's a bit messed up, but then kids of a certain age are waaaaaay messed when you think about it.
The whole idea of "I took it apart to see how it works" line knows no bounds, either mechanical or living, at a certain age.

Well put. I'm the first to appreciate twisted humor but acceptance of this animal cruelty jokes just breeds acceptance of the idea.

I like how there are complaints about the chick that is about to be blended, but no one seems to notice the one that is suffocating.
I find the dark humor in this shirt amusing, and based on some children I knew growing up, don't find it completely out of the realm of reality.

The shirt looked really good until I understood the concept better. I just find this tasteless. Is it psychopathy week? I think most kids have a keen understanding of doing harm to animals until they learn from adults how to be cruel.

Best shirt ever. The people who are over reacting about the animal cruelty present in the shirt don't seem to realize the difference between a shirt that says "Hey you should totally blend baby chickens!" and one that plays up the absurdity and morbid humor inherent in a fictional child implying harm to fictional animals.

Re: The RYB color model
While I do understand why people think this is disturbing or cruel, I can also see this as a scene in a network family sitcom. She's your innocent, no malice-meant but dumb kid trying to show off her experiment to her parent. Of course, the very next scene is the parent stopping her from using the blender, opening the jar for the "blue" bird and making some primetime-friendly joke like "Okay, maybe science isn't your thing. How about music? I don't think you can do any more harm there than Britney's already done." *audience laughs on cue*

Re: The RYB color model
I'm glad to see the frog's faces your other design weren't too people like for the rejectionator, but I really wanted to see this one print. The braces matching the colors of the birds (well, they will match by the end of the experiment.) really bring it together. It's little details like that, that really take a design from "pretty good" to "rock solid".

Re: The RYB color model
Why is everyone upset about the bird in the blender, but nobody upset about the bird that's suffocating to death?
First of all, being blended would be an almost instantaneous death, whereas suffocation is much more painful.
Second of all, the blending has yet to happen. The suffocating bird IS ALREADY BEING SUFFOCATED!
That having been said, this is an absolutely awesome shirt. I wouldn't personally wear it, but it deserves to be in the fog, and maybe even win!

The bird that's turned blue from being suffocated is an example of cruelty to animals in my opinion. (Fictional animals, mind you.)

The thing I don't like about this one is that the animal cruelty is the joke. Spiritgreen's balloon turtle is situationally funny; you tell somebody that the derby theme was "science fair," and the pay-off is a turtle floating through the clouds. This is just a girl wantonly killing animals to make them change colors.

I think if the girl was sad because her experiment failed and she didn't mean to kill the animals, I would be more okay with it. Even if there was blood everywhere and she was crying, I would prefer it because she wouldn't be smiling happily as she tortures living things.
Of course the animals are fictional. Maybe it could be like a sitcom. But I also think most sitcoms are full of crap - crap that influences the way people think regardless of how it's intended.

Also, in reality, egg hatcheries either grind up male chicks while they are still alive or just throw them into plastic bags to suffocate because they aren't profitable. The only thing that is fantasy in this shirt is that it's done by a kid at a science fair.

Not really, but I would stop large-scale egg production entirely. If the people who are in the business of roosters and chickens can't figure out how to behave responsibly, then maybe they shouldn't be in business.
