I changed the ink colors and added more support system to the coaster. Thanks novastarj for the constructive criticism. The extra wood structure really did help the design.

I don't have a big woot following and I don't "get votes from a newsletter, mass emails, fake accounts or shout outs". I was not accused of this nor do I think many good artist on woot use these methods. See GUMIYO thread for quote.

I have a few friends and my family behind me - thanks guys. ANY artist with skills and drive can make it on woot. Thank you everyone and thanks woot.

Now, onto the main attraction.

Creative: The derby topic was released at noon and I was on the phone with my wife... "BIG" she replied.

From there, I got back to my biggest memory from my adolescent amusement park trips. My FIRST big ride. The American Eagle. Six Flags Great America - Gurnee, Illinois.

The shirt image is my memory of looking up at the big drop standing in line. The two inks were selected to represent the final ride.

The American Eagle - WIKI: "127 feet (38 m) tall and reaches speeds of 66 mph (105 km/h). The bottom of the first drop is built 20 feet (6.1 m) below ground level, bringing the height of the first drop to just over 147 feet (45 m). The Eagle debuted in 1981 as the tallest and fastest racing wooden roller coaster in the world, which it still retains today."

I love the extra supports. Reminds me of my favorite coaster in San Diego. However, I prefer the original colors.

reminds me of the "Twister Two" when i would always go to elitch gardens in denver, there was a sign near the entrence that said,

"No spitting and/or throwing rock or missiles on the ride"

i suppose it was a common occurance. Great sillouette, btw!

Decided to take the original design down. The woot community seems to prefer more wood. Thanks for the votes everyone.

HAH! I was thinking the same thing. That sign was always good for a laugh.

For some reason, Twister II was always the scariest coaster for me as a kid because I thought it might collapse. It definitely moved and swayed significantly as the cars rolled around on it.

Looks like a photograph or like vector pack, but if you did it, it's pretty cool.

Ha. I'm from the Denver area and know exactly what you're referring to. Funny.

Very nice design and colors too! I was really reminded of The Texas Giant. That is one scary coaster. :D

Me too! Do you remember the gum tree near the Wild Cat at the old Elitches?? Or am I just showing my age now?

I wasn't in the area for the old Elitches. But I'm pretty sure every amusement park in the world has their very own "gum tree".

In recent years, the Texas Giant was mostly scary for the amount of beating-up it did to you...years of maintenance had thrown it out of whack. It's hard to enjoy a coaster when you're being punched in the kidneys by the car.

However, it's been renovated with a steel track supported by wood superstructure (a hybrid coaster, rather than an all-wood), which should reduce the getting-rolled-outside-a-dive-bar effect.

Re: Wooden Wonder - The Main Attraction

I was so excited when I heard this derby theme, because the men in my house are HUGE coaster buffs and I thought there would be a lot of roller coaster choices. But I have been disappointed by the "cutsie" shirts that have been prevailing in a lot of the derbies lately. Not that I have anything against cute, but I was happy to see this design. Hope you get pushed into the FOG, I would totally buy this design for my son and my husband. Plus one from me!!!

oh, and the place for REAL coaster buffs is Cedar Point Ohio - too many monsters to even name, though it has my husband's favorite wooden coaster of all time - Magnum. and my favorites - Millineum Force and Top Thrill Dragster!!
