where did all the bloody feathers come from? shirt needs more dead birds.

also not going to hate on it, or call it to close to your other stuff, because I don't really care enough, and the choice will be made without regard to my feelings on the issue.

That being said, I've got to know man. Why penguins? and I'm not talking about the repetition, I'm talking animal choice. Why not like koalas or hedgehogs or meercats or some other animal? It seems to be penguins, turtles, and squirrels; and I'm just wondering what is it with you and those animals?

Wait, nevermind. It was a BUNNY pretending to be a PENGUIN. I can't keep these penguin shirts straight XD

Anyway I think it's a clever idea, but unfortunately the morbidity is too much for me.

well that answered my question because based on how people were acting here they seem to think that it was just a sequel. It made me think that it was.

If that is what it is based off what the hell are they talking about when they say this is just a sequel.

The way the rule reads to me, Woot meant that the design can't copy the original concept or design elements of the shirt whose title it is inspired by. I don't think this mean that the shirt can't have design elements from other Woot shirts.

I know I love it when my elementary school age children wear shirts that imply penguins are axe murderers. *sarcasm intended*

I know how this turns out.
Penguins love water & the cold.
Neither is good for elmer's glue.
He takes flight but the glue doesn't hold.
Penguin falls to his untimely death landing on the axe.
Penguin is reincarnated as a bunny & goes back to hang out with his old friends.

See your one of those people who kills originality. What you're saying is you would pay a total of $70 for two shirts such as "cooler than you" and "imposter." It's like some sick "buy one, get another for the same price deal." Because I really need two of the exact same shirt. Most of his penguin shirts aren't even funny in the first place. This one is amusing but, doesn't make up for the fact that it's still one penguin who's different from the rest. Now I have a name to blame for previous derbies. Thanks a lot.

Are you really sitting on such a stack of cash that the presence of a shirt you don't want to buy causes you to be left with too much money? "Well, hell...there's another $10 I'll have to blow some other way because those Arthurs keep voting for shirts THEY want to spend $10 on..."

I don't tend to vote for most of ramyb's designs (I really hate turtles, and kinda meh on the penguins), but I'm sure I've contributed to screwing up at least one derby for you because I voted for something that was more wearable to me than whatever you wanted to have win, so I guess you'd better add me to The List.

Which is the one you think is different? The one on the left, sporting the DeLorean look? Or the one on the right who's horrified at what's just happened?

I know, I know...it's a pain having to explain things to your friends who can't be arsed to figure out on their own whether the t-shirt you wore yesterday was 4 penguins, one with a mohawk and a walkman, or 3 penguins and a wanna-be-bunny, or with this one, 4 penguins, one of which is a sociopath. But really, is it any harder than having to explain why Trigonometree is mildly amusing to math geeks and literally no one else?

Add me too. I bought Impostor, but skipped Cooler Than You. Would totally buy this though. I'd *gasp* even wear the shirts on back-to-back days. Oh, and I bought Minor Modifications. So yeah, blame me for helping Ramyb fill Woot with shirts I buy and wear. That's why I vote.

There are some seriously awesome designs on Woot. But I'm voting for things I'd wear on a T-Shirt, not want on my wall. For me, penguins, turtles and bunnies are usually good candidates for wearability. Especially the cute/morbid ones. Obviously I'm in the majority, or the shirts wouldn't print.

Re: Inspired by Taking Flight

Not trying to hate but wouldn't it be more accurate for the title to read: "Inspired by every other Ramyb shirt ever printed at woot."

Then again, its kind of a cumbersome title so maybe that's why he picked "taking flight."

This shirt is great, too bloody or morbid? seriously now, lets get a little perspective.

Another of Ramyb's "one of these things is not like the others" shirts?? NEVER saw that coming!

/end sarcasm

Ramyb supporters flame me if you must, but I just can't understand how this same tired concept sells almost every time.

I can't help thinking that if all his shirts were lined up and sold together at a website, (instead of spread out derby-to-derby as done here) the sheer mass of shirts with the same joke and same rabbits/turtles/penguins/etc would be considered laughable by most visitors.

Riiiiiiight. Because in music, the same pop crap never sells. In movies, the same formulaic plot never sells. There aren't 12 police procedurals available on prime-time TV. There aren't a half-dozen "talent" shows with essentially the same format. The Simpsons hasn't run for over 20 years (or Seinfeld for 9) with the exact same characters.

What planet do you actually live on, and when do you go back?

You seriously can't think of anything that distinguishes those designs? "Oh, they have the same characters, and I can reduce them to a single descriptive phrase, therefore I must treat them as identical". Some people might buy all three just because they have cute penguins on them, or because ramyb is, like, their favoritest artist, evar... But I think someone who'd buy "Inspired by Taking Flight" would be far less likely to own "Impostor", because "Impostor" isn't "edgy" enough. Someone who'd buy "Cooler Than You" would have a stronger sense of individuality than someone who'd buy "Impostor". And so on.

You see "odd man out". I see:

"Impostor" wants to fit in.
"Cooler Than You" wants to stand out.
"Taking Flight" is a gull-murdering psychopath.

For that matter, "Taking Flight" has two "odd men out": The horrified penguin on the right is "different" because he's the only one of the four who doesn't think it's giggle-worthy. I suppose that means that it doesn't actually fit your "one of these things is not like the others" reduction...maybe "some of these things are similar and some are less-similar than the similar things but not really similar to each other"...guess that doesn't roll off the tongue as easily.

Full disclosure: as I've said before, I don't tend to vote for ramyb and don't consider myself specifically to be a supporter of his. These observations apply just as readily to patrickspens ("Acquired Taste" & "If I Only Had a Brain"), or the-as-yet-to-be-called-out-on-it-rather-than-praised rogerrogerroger and his moustaches.

There was some snarkage about "Acquired Taste" and "If I Only Had a Brain" having the "same" zombie characters in them (I think some people even earned "quality posts" for that), even though the tableaux and thematic elements were completely different.

On the other side of the coin, in this most recent derby, rogerrogerroger actually got praised by several people for recurring his characters (and/or their fabulous moustaches).

Just a little hard to catch the Zeitgeist around here.

I occasionally (when I have nothing better to do, which is rare) read the comments under Ramyb's shirts for sheer amusement value. It's like Youtube... no, Youtube is still worse. Anyway, I am always amused by the self-proclaimed "art critics" and their sad, sad delusions. If you want to critique art, go to deviantart. That's where folks display, y'know, art. There was an individual a few posts up saying that they voted for this shirt because they liked it. I have bad news for you art critics: that's why people vote for shirts, they like them. Now the vast majority of these voters are not going to expose themselves to the flames by admitting that they voted for a shirt that they can clearly see has a hate following of extremely caustic people. There's a Cracked article on this very subject, you should read it. But no matter how you insult these people, or insult Ramyb himself, they will continue to vote for the shirts that they like and believe they will wear. Ramyb is a classic case of supply and demand. In case it hasn't become readily apparent to you, there is a large number of people with a taste for cute shirts. Ramyb meets that demand and profits. And guess what? Woot profits too. They are a business. It is their business to sell shirts. The Derbys are a perfect opportunity for them to sample demand before they begin supplying, and when that many consumers state their wants, Woot will give them what they want. Why? Because Woot is a business. They exist to make money so that all the fine people who work there can have a house, car, clothes, food, and a screaming monkey. Rant all you like (but consider your blood pressure as you do so) the facts will remain the facts. If you were genuine art critics, and I submit that you are not, you'd be out looking at, and making helpful suggestions on, real art that real artists would really like feedback on, not venting spleen at a t-shirt contest.

I think (dont know but Id love to see Ramys sales broken down by size) that its mainly because his shirts are ones that are bought for kids.
Like it or not (and Im not a fan) he sells on woot and if I was him, Id be doing exactly the same until it stopped selling.

That said, Im glad when a derby isnt "Ramyfied" even though I actually liked this one more than most (yes, I think I have a couple of his in my collection somewhere).
