Re: No Ticket

This is a revamp of "Ticket to Ride", now with 100% fewer humans. I'm cannibalizing my own potential votes -- for science!

Aperture Science approves this message...FOR SCIENCE!

GMV (as one who suggested the removal of the human, how could I NOT vote for it!?)

Good evening folks.
Just dropping by to say that I have stared at this shirt with 3D glasses on...
And it is badass.
That is all, thank you.

Thanks for the feedback. "No Ticket" is popular enough that I have removed its sister layout, "Ticket to Ride", from the derby. Perhaps if it gets a good job and applies itself, it can afford to bring its other siblings over from the old country :>

So I thought there is NO WAY that this would actually work with 3D glasses.

Wrong. Aboslutely Wrong.

It is amazing. It should come with a pocket to keep the 3D glasses in.

WOW.

I guess now would be as good a time as any to mention that the rocket ships are crewed entirely by zombies. And the flying saucers? Mostly kittens, except for the captains: both penguins. Just sayin'.

I think your colors are reversed. 3D glasses have the red lens on the left, and this requires it on the right for the 3D to work.

I follow what you're saying, j5, but I don't have a pair of anaglyph glasses to test it. When I built this, I was mimicking the color placement of 3d images I found online. Perhaps onawhitehorse and mojophilter are willing to weigh in about whether the starfield appeared closer to them or farther away than the ships, and which color lens they had over which eye.

Thanks for the feedback, regardless :>

The 3D glasses I have came with the 3D version of a Bob's Big Break DVD (Monsters vs. Aliens) THe right lens is red, left lens is green. It works great. The starfield is in the background and the ships and lasers are jumping out.

THIS MUST PRINT!!

Odd, I have Polar Express 3D and my kid's Lego magazines and it's reversed of that. Gotta love standards.

Oh well, carry on then.

eta: when reversed, it just looks flat as opposed to receding into the background. I'm sure someone can weigh in on the science there.

Re: No Ticket

I can research which 3d colored lens setup is the most common, and make sure my sep file matches that ...should I make it into the fog, that is.

Frankly, while I've enjoyed this design getting as many votes as it has, it doesn't seem likely at this point to make it into the top three. And I don't believe I'm allowed to turn around and submit it to the daily woot.

Re: No Ticket

I thought it was a neat homage to 3D. But it actually VIEWS in 3D? Epic. If it doesn't make it, I sincerely hope you can submit it elsewhere. It's too cool a concept to go to waste.

correct me if i'm wrong but if we're just talking flimsy paper glasses can't you just flip them inside out and put them on backwards and they'll work?

Glad both formats appear to work :>

I was looking around last night, and it appears that a lot of the new 3d home videos use the green-red glasses, rather than the traditional red-blue... so I'll probably leave the color halos on the sides they're on now in the sep file.

Now here's hopin' we find out how well the printed ink colors pop, when compared to the brighter output of our monitors...

Thanks for the market research, everybody :>

Yeah, I had to flip my glasses too. If he reversed the colors, it would be perfect.

Yeah, if you wear them like normal it looks like the star field is in front and everything else recedes behind it. Kinda trippy actually. :P

Re: No Ticket

I've submitted a request to the woot powers-that-be to see if I can pay for a pair of paper 3d glasses shipped with every shirt, out of my (hypothetical) commission.

Not sure they'll go for it, since it's plainly a blatant grab for votes on my part, but I'll keep you folks posted.

It'd solve the problem of who has which format of glasses, and I'd hopefully be able to do a press check of the colors, since I live near the shirt printing facility.

This design is fairly simple. There doesn't seem to be much too it. Why do I love it so much?

Glad to see it's in the fog, and of corse it's GMV

If I can't arrange for a pair of paper 3d glasses to accompany each shirt, I've found a company that will send anybody a free pair in exchange for a self-addressed, stamped envelope: http://www.3dglassesonline.com/contact/free-sample-request

This is the model I'm basing my color scheme on -- which means I've changed the blue/red on the sep file to red/cyan, and plugged in the Pantone colors given me by my contact at the glasses place (Pantone Warm Red and PMS 333, if you were wanting to play along at home). Hope that satisfies everybody, should I make it onto the medal stand :>

But who will give glasses to everyone I meet while wearing the shirt? Deal breaker?

You could always mount your pair of 3d glasses, facing outward, to a wire framework mounted on your shoulders. That way, each new person could walk up to you, lean forward until their face touched the nosepiece, and then be happily on their way.

Or, if you wanted to point everyone to where they can get their own 3d goodies, I'd be very grateful, and so would woot. The free-glasses site, maybe a little less so :>

Yeah, I gotta say, I don't walk around with 3-D glasses most of the time.
And without them, most 3-D shirt designs are a little headache-inducing.

FWIW, my "official" shirt.woot 3d glasses that came with the Stereo Scope E birthday shirt have red over the left eye and blue over the right.

In my opinion, it looks better when I wear them reversed putting the red over might right eye.

I flipped the colors for my production file, so the glasses you have should work right-side up, when looking at the actual shirt.

It *should* look like it's receding away from you with the red lens over your left eye. If it looks flat to you, it's possible that you're suppressing one eye (i.e. your brain's just ignoring what one eye's seeing). I can go on about the nerdy science of 3D stuff if anyone wants to hear it.

No, it should be coming toward you in this case.
The artist admitted he had the colors swapped compared to the most common configuration.

I've still not heard back from the powers-that-be about their willingness to include 3d glasses with this shirt, should it print. If they don't have any left over from last year, I would guess it'd be a money-losing proposition for them. The layout of shirt.woot's house brand of 3d glasses and the free-ish ones I linked to upthread appear to be identical, at least.
