With a spray of condiments this octo-hotdog shoots for the stars!

A little too...suggestive for my taste. Hot dogs are kinda...suggestive...anyway, but with the little 70s-inspired swirls of color, it just gets even more...suggestive. I could not wear that shirt without taking a lot of crap about it, and my girlfriend couldn't wear it without me having to punch out a lot of knuckle-dragging jerks...
Sorry. This one is a "no" for me.

HA HA HA HA HA... rolls around on the ground. Well now I'm glad I took out the little pucker top off the hotdog. Thanks for letting me know sorry this doesn't work for you. Apparently all my designs for this derby are somewhat wrong. I'm glad that the 70's inspired-ness, if that's a word, comes through. Thanks for the comment.

You're currently fogging, so maybe there are a lot of edgy college-types who probably like this one for precisely the reasons I couldn't wear it. Retro-70's is apparently "in"...best of luck to you! The artwork is really well done.
And yes, the pucker would have been...uh...hard to swallow. ;)
Re: Octo-hotdog
My wife makes little Bento Boxes for the kid every once in a while and these are her favorites.
Sadly this looks a little to...phallic for my taste.
Re: Octo-hotdog
I gotta know, though...mustard, ketchup and mayonnaise on the swirls?
Re: Octo-hotdog
Im curious to see how this plays out. My first design capture a animal too and not a human. I was scared, so I sub mine as a daily...
alephnull2k1 wrote:I gotta know, though...mustard, ketchup and mayonnaise on the swirls?
Yep you are correct! =D I had considered relish but thought the 70's colors worked better with mayonnaise.
Re: Octo-hotdog
Sooo cute. I hope someday to have real Japanese octo-weenies for lunch! Til then I get sad, plain (but still tasty) American weenies. :\ +1!!

I was worried about that too but figured that it was still a hotdog with a face and that it was expressing a human emotion. But I axed most of my other designs for the same reason.
Re: Octo-hotdog
I used to make these for my little brother for lunch!!! AWESOME IDEA ![]()

True. This does have a human-like face. Mine didn't. We probably both made the right move! ![]()
Re: Octo-hotdog
I want to like this because it's cute despite the content, but I just can't. I agree with the comments about it being a bit suggestive, but that's not my primary issue with it.
The primary issue is it's hard to follow/too niche. That makes the t-shirt hard to "read", and that makes for designs that don't print.
More specifically, unless you're already familiar with octo-hotdogs, you're not going to know what this thing is, your best guess will be a pink octopus or squid. In the context of the theme it's a stretch in my opinion. It's not anthropomorphic food so much as food animal-pomorphizing (that's not a word, but you get the idea) as an octopus, which is then anthropomorphized with the facial expression.
I don't mean to rag on you, it's just that I've liked a lot of your designs and your best ones (and the ones that do well) are the ones that read easily.

LOL, I agree with you. But my brain defeats me most of the time when I go to make these designs. A quirk of how I make stuff. I really do try and reel it in and make non-niche designs but what I end up making is still sort of strange and odd. I'm glad you like some of them.
I have some ideas on how to twist the oddness to my advantage and I've also tried not being so odd with mixed results. Sorry this one doesn't work well for you, but thanks for taking the time to comment. It's good to hear from other people on how my designs are working or not working.
Sometimes when I make something like this (a design I know is a little... er whatever it is) I figure that since it's finished I should just post and see what people think. =D It's one of the nice things about the derby is getting another people's perspective on what you've made.
Thanks again for the comment.
Re: Octo-hotdog
Squee! It's so cute!
Niche it may be, but I think it's one of my favorite designs in this derby. I think there are more people that will "get it" than you think and I hope I get to buy this one ![]()
Re: Octo-hotdog
As soon as I saw this I thought of an octo-dog.
I asked my guy what he thought it was a picture of (while covering the text) and he said "a penis?"
I think it's adorable but I wouldn't wear it. He also mentioned that it's a good thing there's 3 swirly lines or else the red and yellow would end up being um... octo-balls.

TOO FUNNY. After I read that I had to ask my boyfriend, also covering the title. His first guess was "An octopus" followed quickly by "Or a squid?"
I guess he's a relatively clean-minded guy, lol.
Re: Octo-hotdog
Never seen or heard of these before and even reading the title, I didn't "get it."
However, after seeing the picture of "octo-hotdogs" I really like it.
I think from now on, when I make hot dogs, I will make them into octo-hotdogs first!
Re: Octo-hotdog
Super cute! I love making Octodogs for my bento lunches! <3
Re: Octo-hotdog
i got it. i like it. fyi for anyone who wants to make em, cut end of hot dog off. put 4 cuts on the bottom half. fry till cut end curls up. if you have black sesame seeds you can use them for eyes.
