Re: Ancient Astronaut

As a big fan of Mayan culture and their extensive knowledge about the cosmos i wanted to do an illustration based on the Mayan King Pakal and his famous carved stone sarcophagus lid , which according to many people its a proof of ancient astronauts or aliens visiting our planet since many years ago , check the similarities with a real spaceship … In the center of the frame theres a man sitting like an astronaut on a complex chair with some kind of ungravity in his hair , he has a mask on his nose probably to breath , he uses his two hands to manipulate some controls and the heel of his left foot is on some sort of pedal with different controls or positions , the rear portion is separated from him where the engine is and outside at the bottom of the whole frame you can see a flames like in the spaceships propulsion systems , also you can see some kind of wings on both sides o the frame , i think theres about 18 or 20 similarities with modern spaceships.

Here the real stone lid

6 color on black , here a larger view and hope you like it , thanks.

that can also be Pakal starting his journey from his sarcophagus to follow the tree into the world of the dead, which was believed by some to be in between the bands of the Milky Way. There are a few interpretations I guess.

Also, wow did you actually draw that???

Thanks for the comments and votes glad you liked , yes ochopika i draw it and yes that is another interpretation more in the Mayan beliefs but i think the most interesting thing is the similarities with the spaceship in the carved stone , thats the big mistery in controversy in recent years even when the main studies about the similarities were done back in 60's or 70's im not sure , with year 2012 around the corner all of this things are getting more popular also because of the end of an era stated in the mayan calendar.

This is very impressive. If it doesn't print here, try it out somewhere that does larger size printing. It would look wonderful filling up more of the shirt.

I actually find this to be extremely unoriginal; if you travel to Yucatán, you'll find tons of t-shirts depicting the exact, same image.

Well i respect your comment but i disagree , main reason its because i have been in Palenque in Chiapas wich is the main source of the image and not Yucatan as well as in other parts of the Mayan riviera and theres not even a single tee shirt that illustrate the image as a spaceship travelling the space.

I love that part of the Mayan folk lore. The reliefs depicting that story is one of the things that stuck with me closest after a tour a ruins.

One of the best experiencies to go there and the story is just amazing when you really think about more deeply.

Re: Ancient Astronaut

Expo, I am sorry, I have to call foul on this design. I am very familiar with this particular Mayan work. In theory you drew it, but it is a trace/outline of a section of the actual work. For those that do not know the story of K’inich Janaab’ Pakal and the city of Palenque - Go here.

Other than a few border details you left off, the image is 98% exact. This is not an interpretation of the idea of a Mayan astronaut. Line drawing of work done in 1983.

I have enjoyed and voted on several of your designs. I could not be quiet on this one. Your La Muerte is awesome and needs to be higher in ranking.

I honestly believe you should remove this design.

Come on man! , really? , well first of all thanks for your comment about my La Muerte entry and for your support on other of my designs , i really appreciate it as we never know who vote apart from the ones that comment in the entry so thanks again ,

about what you say about my work sorry but i think its kind of out of place , so you say nobody can draw something already exist or if theres a previous illustration made of it? , lets say nobody can draw the eagle in our mexican flag? , or an Aztec calendar , or a famous indian totem or monument? , sorry but theres only one Pakal's stone lid and that was my reference to draw it , you will find several different illustrations and not only one but none will match mine as i draw my own and sure its not even close to be as good as any of those but its my own , , what if i decided to stick to the original.. whats wrong with that? , the only thing i did is to make it more tee shirt friendly removing the lid frame and putting it into the cosmos enviroment as the alternative meaning the stone lid has , who said it was an interpretation of the idea of a Mayan astronaut? , you said that not me , if you read the description i wrote says ... "illustration based on the Mayan King Pakal and his famous carved stone sarcophagus lid" , so it is my own draw based on the lid so again whats wrong with that? , lets put as an example your anthropomorphic food entry, you draw the famous revolution fist done by other person years ago , ok you added the hot dog so whats the difference in this case , i didnt added something funny but other different things and removed others surrounding the lets call it spaceship frame on the lid , so whats the difference with you drawing the previously made and very popular fist adding the hot dog , different aproaches only , im not drawing something copyrighted so seriously dont get your complain ,

I honestly believe you should remove your comment.

Thanks (o;

This is late in the game, but Expo, it just looks traced with minor changes or omission of certain details.

I have seen other artwork be rejected on similar grounds and not be as similar.

As far as the difference of the hot dog to the mayan...parody. Taking a part of pop culture and making a parody of it is a common thing on Woot: one, two, three. Your design is not a parody of the lid. It is the lid.

Regardless, it did quite well in the derby. In fact all your designs did. Good luck in the next one.

Well if after your animation you still think they are the same or traced sorry but theres nothing i can do to change your eye perception , for me they dont match at all in detail , sure they match as a whole in position and dimentions as both of them as well as any illustration you find of this are based in the same stone lid , if you cant understand that then again i cant do anything about.

have a great day! (o;
