Re: Open Ocean
I wanted to create a design that you could get lost in, like when you are staring at the constantly changing ocean.
One colour print on navy. Please look at the close-ups to get a sense of the detail.

Re: Open Ocean
WOW! love the detail
Re: Open Ocean
Very nicely and skilfully done - but, personally, I think it's a trifle too square for my taste.
Re: Open Ocean
wow thats detailed
Re: Open Ocean
Really cool mate , something i could instantly buy , hope gets printed here or somewhere else , +1 , cheers! (o;
Re: Open Ocean
Wow. This is pretty nice.
+1
Re: Open Ocean
This would make a great belt print (cough, cough, Thre_dless, cough). If it doesn't print, after woot's sixty day hold.
Re: Open Ocean
Gorgeous! Great job!
Re: Open Ocean
Love the lines on this. Well done!
Re: Open Ocean
Simply stunning!
Re: Open Ocean
*entranced*
I don't usually like square designs plopped on shirts, but I would wear the crap out of this.
Re: Open Ocean
Thanks for all the complimentary comments. Glad that people are seeing this as a wearable design and find the detail appealing. That linework always seems to take a lot longer to draw than I expect.

Re: Open Ocean
Nice work
This stuff takes awhile to do. +1
Re: Open Ocean
Your detailing is insane up close, almost abstract, and then from a distance the image of a rolling ocean seems soft and very natural.
How clever. :^)
(Josephus' suggestion about a belt print is really good. It might be interesting to experiment with a simple gradient of blues down the image too, maybe?)
Re: Open Ocean
Very nice! I would wear this, and if it doesn't print here it would make an awesome pattern for Threadless. Love it! +1
Re: Open Ocean
That is just bad-ass, good job achieving your goal (making a design you can get lost in). The only thing I'd change is have a little more variation in the size of the negative spaces and line thicknesses.
GMV, hope it prints, good luck.
Re: Open Ocean
Nice work. In style it feels like it belongs somewhere with a larger print size, it seems confined here. I'd hate to think of the work it would take to expand the design tho.

Spiritgreen wrote:(Josephus' suggestion about a belt print is really good. It might be interesting to experiment with a simple gradient of blues down the image too, maybe?)Appreciate the feedback. I agree on the belt print, and just had to go as big woot printing area would allow. I did play around with different colours and even a gradient before submitting. They are all good suggestions, but I got to the point where I kept a lot of design decisions simple or unobtrusive so the expanse of detail and ocean could be the focus.
Re: Open Ocean
What an amazing design!
Re: Open Ocean
Dear Wooters,
I was hoping you could help me. The fog is clearly visible from this side of the ocean, but there is an army of octopuses and owls blocking the way. If you could just vote for this design to clear a path I'll worry about the onions and oaks once I get there.
Yours sincerely,
Sir Pixel Pants

I like the gradient idea -- it already seems to kind of suggest one, due to the sectionalism.
In addition to/rather than the belt, I'd love to see this expanded and printed on an entire shirt (front, sides, back, shoulders). I think that could be a really awesome shirt, not just a tribute to the ocean but wearing it (in floofy, mystic language).

uh, mebe I should explain what a belt print is, eh? just click and all will be revealed!
This is the one shirt in the derby I'm dying to have. Please take it elsewhere to print when you can. Fantastic work!
Re: Open Ocean
This design is amazing! It reminds me a lot of M.C. Escher:

Please print it somewhere else if it doesn't make it here!
