Re: Longing
Beautiful.
It's as if Van Gogh was drawing a comic book. ^_^

That's the coolest thing anyone's ever said to me. Ever.
I love the way this turned out. Nice progression from the pre-derby thread and great outcome!!

Exactly what I thought. This needs to be printed. *so pretty*
Re: Longing
I love the colors and the texture, and the way you make this work for the original tale as well as the Disney one. Both versions are very dear to me, so I appreciate it.
But I can't ever buy this because of the ship. I don't understand. How do those sails even work? All triangular sails? My professors would laugh me out of the building.
Edit: on third glace, I see that they might actually be square sails, but that configuration and size still don't make sense to me.
Re: Longing
Good to see you derbying again Misskari. This has a great colour palette and I really like how the design keeps your eye moving around from one detail to the next with the flow of the design.

Haha, I can understand your concern. I get very hung up on anatomy sometimes when looking at others' work.
The reference illustration for the ship, which I studied very carefully then simplified, did indeed have square sails.
Thanks for the comments, everyone!
Re: Longing
Very pretty imagery, Kari. You can see how much the 'maid wants to interact with the world above.
Re: Longing
Did you deliberately use the color palette of the covers of the old Childcraft books from the 40s-50s? This design and palette evoke mid-century children's illustrations. Great stuff.
Re: Longing
Wow this is so beautiful. The colors and style are just perfect.

Considering the Van Goghish style others think this is drawn in (i guess it looks like an oil paiting...) anatomy of the sails should be the least of your concerns. Well then again, starry night is really his only piece that I can think of that is completely wonky and free flowing. His own portrait isn't that far from anatomically correct, just the method he used to paint it makes it look a bit wonky...w/e
Re: Longing
I really love the way this came out, the colors are great and it has such a nice flow to it.
Re: Longing
Wow, I love this! Can definitely see a winner right here!
Re: Longing
Beautiful tribute to a classic fairy tale that uniike the Disney prettied up version doesn't end well for the mermaid. This tee leaves it up to interpretation and is majestically done. This would be stunning as a wall print too! Great job.
Re: Longing
Love the colors and the big flowing shapes give it an almost abstract feel.
Love it ~ my favorite!!!
Re: Longing
Was preparing to buy this shirt for the past couple days; very surprised and disappointed it didn't print.
I'm sorry, but, this shirt is a million times better than the one that is for sale currently...(little red riding hood).

That's exactly my opinion too, I even think it's by far better than last days "Straw, Sticks, & Bricks BBQ" shirt.
Indeed very disappointing...
Re: Longing
I'll jump on the boat here and put in my two cents about disappointment...I would've bought this shirt, I would've bought a few of the other contenders that didn't quite cut it. But now there's nothing I wanna buy. ![]()
Re: Longing
I wanted this shirt SO BADLY!! I was going to get one for me and one for my sister. The colors were just perfect... :'( Here's hoping you place first in the double-take derby, MissKari. You are a fantastic artist.

How is this not in the double take derby?
