Nice, really nice! Visually warm and inviting and the design is really whimsy and free. This should skyrocket into foggy territory quickly. If it prints, will you sign mine?

Re: Press Start
Your moon entry from fairy tales was epic and this is another wicked awesome entry. love it.
Re: Press Start
Love the art!
Re: Press Start
Great work with a square brush, but a square brush does not make this 8-bit. Pretty sloppy on the lettering too... basic 8-bit lettering shouldn't have any odd curves or cut outs from the letters. You are working with squares, everything is uniform and symmetrical. Look at old DOS prompts for more examples.

Thank you for the support, everyone!
@nblottie - Glad you liked my other design! I love your current one, and congrats on the print!
@blinddog3d - Thanks for the kind words, sir. I'd be humbled to ruin a perfectly good shirt with my train-wreck signature.
@logicalcupcake - thank you, thank you
@Adam7986 - I appreciate the feedback, and I'm glad you bring up the 8-bit stuff because I tried to look into what sort of resolution to work in. I found 512x512 (which could be totally wrong, I didn't have a whole lot of luck here) and made the image at that resolution and blew it up to printable size by preserving the hard edges with PS. I went into the design thinking the "graphics" were going to be a lot more like mario 3 than 1 (1 being closer to what most people probably associate with the traditional 8-bit feel), so yes, there are some curves in there they didn't really use in first generation 8-bit games.
Here is a good link I glanced over for reference.
I'll shut up now. Good night everyone!

Ok so after looking at your source image, I'll admit your work and reference to 8-bit makes more sense to me. I can see more of where you are coming from design wise. I still think the letters are little sloppy, but I obsess about stuff like that.
I still feel like it is pushing the limit of 8-bit, meaning an 8-bit process couldn't produce the resolution, but I do appreciate the effort you put in the the design explanation. You didn't have to go into that and it shows character.
Got my vote for integrity.
Re: Press Start
This is gorgeous! It reminds me of the 8 bit landscapes in the old Sierra computer games I loved as a kid. And the text totally makes it. I'm gonna have to go take votes back from a bunch of things... I want this to print so bad. If it doesn't, you should print it somewhere else, and let me know where, and I will so buy it.

Please please please find a way to allow us to purchase this if it doesn't get selected.

Thanks for the very useful link! I'm glad I'm not the only person who got obsessive about figuring out what the actual limitations are.
There seem to be a lot of people who either have no idea what 8-bit means and didn't look it up (and the Derby writeup didn't give many leads), or think they know what counts but then severely underestimate the power of early machines.
@epicfal, arek920 - Glad you liked it enough to comment! As you may know, the design is Woot's to do with as they please for 2 months (6 if they like it enough to give it an honorable mention, which is always cool). So if it doesn't end up in the forthcoming double-take derby, expect it to be quite some time before it materializes elsewhere.
If all else fails you can check out my site (link in sig), and I'll post an update about its fate.
@gement - I think the fact that our derby overlords didn't name a resolution shows they were happy with something pixelly rather than strictly 8-bit.
Personally, I thought my concept would read a lot better if I worked from the low resolution and then blew it up, and my very limited pixel art experience has shown its a lot easier to work small anyway.

Re: overlords, yup. This has just seemed like an unusually scratchy topic for people declaring each other out of theme. (Myself included, though I've tried to keep it down to a dull roar.)
The only real choices are work small and scale up, or draw a thing, shrink it down, and do massive cleanup and reproportioning. I can't imagine the hassle of the latter.
Re: Press Start
Not a big fan of the sappy scene here, but I really like the concept.
Re: Press Start
Amazing design. How I wish it was in the fog...[9th-15th are what deserve to be in the fog, quite honestly)
Re: Press Start
I loved this! It was the only one i voted for. I would love a way to purchase it even if it doesn't get printed here. Even if its on a poster or something! Keep me posted!

Especially if it were on a lighter colored shirt
