I always wondered what was wrong with that kid; he couldn't stay out of the well for more than a couple weeks.
Re: A Horrible Accident
Hilarious!
Re: A Horrible Accident
Okok I'll buy a white shirt.
Re: A Horrible Accident
This is exactly what my dogs would do. Then they'd go and clean out my refrigerator...

Seconded. I will so get this.

I can't stop laughing at this! In for one

Been done, almost exactly.

Woot didn't show up on my radar till shortly after this derby (I began entering in November). I had not seen this entry before.
I certainly did not intentionally intend to copy Travis.
I guess it is up to Woot to determine whether Lassie pushing Timmy down the well is a unique enough concept to warrant rejection on those grounds.
Re: A Horrible Accident
This reminds me of this in a good way.

It did make me do a double-take when I first saw it, but I don't see a problem here. Michael is a well respected artist that's been here a long time and earned a good reputation. I feel comfortable that he wouldn't purposefully copy a design. I just chalk it up to two artists having the same idea and presenting it in the most logical way. Since similar shirts don't exist, I don't see a problem there. As an aside, it looks much better than mine and solves many of the problems my version had. Nice work.

That's an interesting precedent to set here. What's to stop people from just going through past derbies and redoing other designs that didn't quite make it? I don't think this guy did anything intentionally, but what about the next guy? Anyone can say they never saw a previous design. Is the bar now set at "it didn't actually print on a shirt before, so regardless of the similarities, it's OK."?

I believe the precedent already is that "Similar Shirts Exists" is the bar we measure by unless we have a belief that the art was blatantly copied. This has to be judged on a case by case basis. As always we reserve the right to reject entries if we believe someone is clearly and purposefully stealing art from other artists, printed or otherwise.

That's probably because he did that shirt too
He used to go by deadfrog.
Re: A Horrible Accident
A genuinely hilarious design. Glad to see it's not getting rejected.

Was about to make a similar comment, but someone beat me to the punch. I really like this watercolour-y, children's storybook sort of style. Nicely done.
Re: A Horrible Accident
If this prints I'm in for 3. I can't stop laughing.
Re: A Horrible Accident
GMV! I say that all the time when our dog starts begging/barking. It is hilarious and I'm in for sure!

Michael has mastered it well, as evidenced by both shirts. I'm not going to worry my head about the similarity to Travis' design, or about the white shirt (though, while I'll vote, I can't pull white off). The only thing that bugs me is the little thingamabob that denotes the contact of paw to butt. I can't stop seeing a daisy, and it bugs me. Awesome, but I can unsee it.
Re: A Horrible Accident
I love the colors with this one. I'm a sucker for colorful designs on a white tee. I know, I'm one of those weirdos who loves white shirts.

Can't pull white off either [I drool more than my dog], and I second your comment on the ass-terisk.
Re: A Horrible Accident
By the way, in all the Lassie movies & TV episodes, Timmy *never* fell down a well. See:
http://www.lassieweb.org/lassfaq.htm#well
The only main character who fell down a well was Lassie "her"self, in Season 17's "Well of Love."
But hey, that's the standard Lassie joke (Woof, woof! What's that, Lassie? Timmy fell down the well?), and I love the shirt. And Travis gets the civility award of the week.
AlexIAm wrote:This reminds me of this in a good way.
Hahaha! I remember that shirt. It was too gross for my tastes, but it was funny, and the "Wear This Shirt: Every minute of every day, because it is absolutely incredible."
Is still one of my favorite write-up reasons to wear a shirt that I've ever read.
AlexIAm wrote:This reminds me of this in a good way.
That's my exact thought, and is the very reason I'm voting and likely purchasing this shirt. It fits so well with that one. I'll likely make it a pair to wear across a single day at the conventions I attend.

I like this presentation of the idea - seems less premeditated and more active. I would buy this shirt and I hope it wins!

Re: A Horrible Accident
I have friends with Collies and when I showed them this, they said it was hilarious. And they would wear it. Great design.
Re: A Horrible Accident
OK, I really, really want this shirt. I have a collie, and I would wear this to dog shows. I would strongly prefer it on black. If woot won't print this (oh please oh please...) perhaps someone who does dog breed t-shirts might?
Re: A Horrible Accident
I love this shirt. I love the humor. I love the whimsy of the "ass-terisk". I love the retro schoolbook style and soft watercolor shading of the design.
IT MUST PRINT!!!
Re: A Horrible Accident
If this does not print tonight I will be the most dissapointed person in the world, and it had BETTER print in the next Double Take if not. I was SO looking forward to this derby, but this design is the only one in the fog that I voted for, and the only one I would wear of what *might* still print tonight at 1am (where I am, not woot time =P haha). I will be staying up until then, hopefully the power holds up till that point so I can order one if it prints. Screw Irene (I live in NY, and she's not really here where I am but she's on her way). Sorry for rambling =P
So many awesome entries in this Derby. Absolutely getting this if it wins. Will be bummed if it doesn't. Not sure which would be my favorite; Horrible Accident or The Binge.
