Sorry, I don't understand this one. It looks like a regular dog park, except one of the dogs has a martini. Is he supposed to be Brian from Family Guy? Could you let me know what I'm missing?

In this pic, there's Blue from blue's clues, Scooby Doo, Odie, Catdog, Clifford, Zero from Nightmare before Christmas and there's one other that I don't recognize.

And underdog (the one flying)

I guess if I look closer I can recognize Blue and Zero, but the others don't remind me of their respective dogs very much. Sorry.

It looks like it is supposed to be famous dogs, Clifford is by the tree at the back. The white floating dog might be zero from nightmare before Christmas. And that could be underdog in the background.

I think he had to change them enough that he wouldn't get rejected for copyright characters. Also, the dog laying down in the background is Snoopy.
None of them really LOOK like the dogs they're supposed to represent, but I think that was to avoid the rejectionator.
Re: Dog Park
Aww, this is so cute! Does anybody know who the little grey dog next to Clifford is? I cannot figure that one out, but I got everybody else! :3

I'd say the gray dog (the only one thus far not named) is Astro from the Jetsons.

Then what's the point?
Re: Dog Park
The martini glass was the giveaway, but shouldn't "Brian" have a gold tag on his collar too?
Re: Dog Park
Props on getting what at first looks like a dozen colors out of 6.
Also the depth, I keep finding new things.
I was actually excited about this piece at first glance, before I realized its just pop references. I work for a local animal shelter and often am out working with the dogs in the park and it seemed as though this was personifying dog personalities at first.
Re: Dog Park
The mouth of the yellow dog looks odd. The tongue appears to be attached at the side rather than in the center. Can't un-see it.
Re: Dog Park
This is awesome! GMV for sure!!! I love seeing how all the cartoons dogs would look if they were "real". Very cute!
curli76 wrote:Then what's the point?
I think it's quite creative. Sure they don't like EXACTLY like the original dog, but it makes it more of a challenge. Once I saw the martini and looked at the color of the dog I knew it was Brian and instantly got the idea behind this shirt. It's a great concept. And it shows how the dogs from many shows would be in a dog park!

I just don't think enough of the dogs are distinguishable at all. What is that brown thing, Scooby-Doo? Scooby-Doo is a Great Dane and should be much larger. That Odie dog looks like 100 other dogs. Sorry, I'm just not digging it.
Re: Dog Park
I like the references in the background, but the Family Guy reference is too prominent for me- I hate that show!
wolfwoodxlv wrote:I'd say the gray dog (the only one thus far not named) is Astro from the Jetsons.
Could the gray one be Toto?
Re: Dog Park
Super cute and super clever! I love this and I hope it wins!

For hating this shirt so much you sure spend a lot of time looking at it.
Nice work Ramyb, love how Scooby is investigating Blue's paw prints...GMV
Scooby has spots doggonit!
Re: Dog Park
The yellow dog next to the sign, am I wrong for thinking that's CatDog?

Same here. Unfortunately, it seems that we are too few in number. :P

A) I never said I "hated" the shirt. I just think that several of the dog references are not clear enough to make me want to buy it and I was explaining my position while trying to get some clarification. It's just too much Brian...maybe if some of the more obvious choices were front and center I'd be more inclined to get behind it.
B) When I comment on something I know is going to get a reaction (which is very rare; I don't typically argue with people online) I like to see where it goes.
And that's the last I'll say.

It's supposed to look like that...it's Odie from Garfield. His tongue always looked like it came from the side of his mouth.
naeylonsidhe wrote:It's supposed to look like that...it's Odie from Garfield. His tongue always looked like it came from the side of his mouth.
No, it never looked that way. Unless facing head on, his tongue always stuck out of his mouth frontways.
Re: Dog Park
wow. this is really cool. well thought out i love
will buy if it prints! the subtlety is brilliant. as a lover and expert on dogs, gmv!

no if you look his muzzle is white like astros. toto is a black Scottish terrier
Re: Dog Park
The one on the far left is Spot I think. It was part of a children's pop up book series.
Re: Dog Park
Wow. This is brilliant. I REALLY hope this makes it, because I'd definitely get one.
I do agree with a few others, that some of the dogs aren't... obvious enough. But I guess that's what makes it more fun- trying to solve it. And, obviously, it would get Rejected if it were too copy-righted.
Really great idea. I got the concept the moment I saw Brian and the Martini Glass... but the only other dogs I could guess were Blue, Clifford, and Scooby-Doo. :P
spazzysoph wrote:no if you look his muzzle is white like astros. toto is a black Scottish terrier
Toto was a Cairn terrier and definitely wasn't black.

I think Toto would throw the whole design off since all of the other dogs were "animated." Toto was portrayed by a real dog which makes me lean towards him actually being Astro.
Re: Dog Park
You know.... I'm surprised this isn't in the fog already, or even really close to entering the Fog. I think this shirt is a lot better than most the shirts above it... but that's just me.
Re: Dog Park
I'm pretty sure that mystery pooch in the back is Snoopy. Note the philosophical sky-gazing and what looks suspiciously like sunshades on his face.
I actually really like this one. Voted.

The snoopy one is not being debated... it's the one laying next to clifford.
I agree with the "astro" folk.
JenXer74 wrote:Same here. Unfortunately, it seems that we are too few in number. :P
You can count me, too.
In addition, this shirt looks a lot like a Funny Things Are Everywhere do-over with a less-focused cast of characters.
curli76 wrote:Sorry, I don't understand this one. It looks like a regular dog park, except one of the dogs has a martini. Is he supposed to be Brian from Family Guy? Could you let me know what I'm missing?
They are all famous dogs =D
Re: Dog Park
Decent effort, but Scooby is just killing it for me. As a big fan who grew up watching the cartoons, this rendition is just too far off for my liking.
I can understand de-stylizing Odie a bit, and making them all a bit more generic (for copyright reasons if nothing else) but there should haven't been any issues drawing a generic Great Dane.
The head is what's throwing me off the most. Scooby looks more like a fox than a Dane.
This is brilliant. I do, however, agree that the character variations are strong enough to upset the readability of the shirt for your average peon. With this sort of illustration there's an issue of critical mass, where the viewer needs to recognize a certain amount of the material to form a positive relationship with what they are seeing, or the response becomes confusion and condescension. I think the vast majority of people would fail to meet the necessary recognition level even if the characters were readily-identifiable replicas, which is unfortunate, but not really the shirt's fault.
