Holy half-tones, Batman! While this looks very impressive on the screen, I wonder if Woot's printing capabilities can handle this one?

This is wicked awesome. I really don't need shirts right now, but man, it would be sweet if this wins.

This may be the best design I've seen on woot.

The detail bar has just been raised.

This design is pretty cool (I admit I didn't even see the giraffe until someone mentioned it), but I will be surprised if woot can print it as presented.

I concur. This thing is simply jaw dropping. I want it framed and hanging on the wall.

Re: The Hunt

While I agree it's beautiful, I wonder if twe eyes would have had a stronger psychological impact? It would be great if the shirt was unnerving to everyone around; if we felt hunted when we saw it on someone. Did you try it as two eyes?

Y'know, I wish woot would add tanks. I don't wear tees with something on them; all my shopping here is for my 10 yo son and rarely for my daughter.

It would be pretty difficult to do two eyes and keep the same level of detail. And besides, there's the whole awkward placement issue.

xazothia wrote:...I will be surprised if woot can print it as presented.

Not sure why they couldn't- it is within the specs: 5 colors, halftones at 30 LPI

Re: The Hunt

Absolutely stunning.

I disagree with the comment about having 2 eyes because they would likely become the dreaded boobie circles.

This is... I'm just... wow. If woot can print it at anything approaching its detail level, it will be an amazing shirt. Nicely done, regardless.

Re: The Hunt

Interesting fact: notice how the pupil is circular, like a human's and not oval like a domestic cat's? Lions developed circular pupils because they hunt during the day, instead of the night.

Thank you all for the kind and wonderful comments... it was a fun design to work on and I'm glad it's been so well received!

I must admit, some inspiration was provided courtesy of Boots & Kevlar's The Right to Remain Awesome, which I've been rocking quite frequently.

I think two eyes, besides causing the placement issue, would be a bit cliche. To me, a single huge one would actually seem to be even more ominous than two.

Thought I'd provide links to the actual reference photos I used:

Eye | Giraffe | Tree

I didn't alter the pose for the giraffe much except for the direction of approach, which seemed to work better with the design.

  • Congratulations on winning a Best Loser Award!
  • This is not SPAM.
  • Winning a BLA does NOT mean this shirt won't print -- I'm hoping it does.
  • Your one and only gift is this crappy little badge in your shirt thread. Enjoy.
  • What if you're wrong? What if there's more? What if there's hope you never dreamed of hoping for?

j5 wrote:Yeah, and do a Google image search for Giraffe and you'll find this:

It's obvious the artist used references in designing this. The level of detail is too exact for someone to go off memory alone. But it's not a copy, it's a reinterpretation and drawn composite of several photos (as linked by the artist) into a unique idea. As far as I know that's within the rules. None of these are "elements created and/or owned by someone other than the designer." Technically the reference photo for the eye is copyrighted, but the artist did not copy it. Google "lion eye," and you'll find dozens of photos of lion's eyes that look similar to what is here. Same with giraffes, and acacia trees.
