Re: Star Map

I want to love this shirt because the idea is good and the colors are amazing. But the perspective on the shirt is throwing me for a loop.

The pirate skull flag doesn't seem to be facing the right way. And the lit windows are all the same size and at the same level meaning when I look at the windows I feel like I'm looking straight on the back of the ship. However I can also see the side of the ship, which gives an Escher like bent ship feeling.

I wanted to not see it, but now I see it. Always and forever. The prow appears to be going into the distance, while the sails are coming forward. And it seems like I'm viewing the lit cabin from the side.

At first glance, however, the shirt looks nice. And that's what you're going for in a shirt.

I see it now, too. Despite that (and I'm just going to assume that those are the side windows of the cabins) I love the colors!

Sloppy work Spens. I call for a resub.

Such a great concept, tying star navigation with the classic treasure map, and beautiful artwork. You've established a very high bar for yourself. As for angles, it all looks good to me: the side windows are lit and the sails are at an angle more common in actual sailing than classic movie imagery. Which I learned during my extensive time on the high seas (wikipedia) back in my youth (30 seconds after reading these comments).

My issue isn't with the sails, it's with the windows. Because they have a slight fan arrangement, they don't look like side windows, they look like rear windows.

Damn. I'm working on a "pirate ship at night" design right now. I'm gonna finish it anyway, but who wants two pirate ships in one derby? Maybe I'll sub elsewhere.

Re: Star Map

I don't care if it looks like the perspective is off, and i'm thinking most people don't care about that either. It is so beautiful and I am drawn deep into it every time I look at it. sigh...

Re: Star Map

For those of us who sleep in oversize T-shirts, this shirt (like the recent Night School T and the earlier T featuring a bat & its nightlight) has the potential to be seriously classy nightwear. (And yes, I do also wear Woot shirts in the daytime--just different ones, in a much smaller size.)

Re: Star Map

I would so vote this if it didn't have the skull and crossbones. I don't think they add to the sort of ethereal effect of the whole design, and it makes the perspective REALLY confusing!

I hope this one makes it, as I need a pirate themed shirt for my pastafarian gatherings.

But I just don't get banging on a shirt because it's not 100% realistic. He's obviously not going for photo realism.

I always love the look of a night sky. It's a gorgeous design. I would like to see it win so that I can buy one.

The quibble about the sail or the windows- this is art, not a photo. You would tell Pablo that his eyes aren't lined up! It's called artist license to change things. This is absolutely beautiful and will buy the second it prints.

As the first person who commented on the windows/sail I want to explain why I did so. It is because I love the colors and the idea. If this shirt prints I will still think about buying it, but it isn't a guaranteed purchase. If the perspective had been a little better, I would have bought the shirt for sure.

Patrickspens is a great artist (I own several of his shirts) and he has been known to resubmit designs when his original design has a flaw. I was hoping that by offer constructive criticism, he would fix the perspective flaws and make this shirt even better.

Beutiful design and +1 from me for sure.

The only crit I would give is to reverse the stars so the 'X' was on the left. That way the ship would be traveling towards the treasure.

Fantastic colorz, gr8 design. You're a Jedi!
Have to vote, no choice... Love it! I would wear this anywhere! (except where cocktail attire was required). Brilliant job!

I do see the discrepancy in the perpsective, but its just too dam awesome to be bothered with it! The colorz are amazing and the reflections fantastic! I would still wear this just to make people wonder...

First shirt voted on in forever. Woot's average age of there users must be 17. Hey, lets have a joke on our shirt! Sorry, I'm half kidding. This is soft and elegant and still classy and modern... Love it!

Exactly! All that's missing is a zombie pirate or a three-headed monkey :-)
