Ack it didn't show the shirt I was referring to... It's the Koala in a Pocket design =)
Re: Marsupial in my pocket
If there was ever a time where woot should make a shirt with a real pocket in it, this would be it.
Re: Marsupial in my pocket
Dare I say it? A cutesy ramby design that I actually like??
Re: Marsupial in my pocket
He doesn't really look drunk enough. ;^)
Re: Marsupial in my pocket
okay, this is cute.
Re: Marsupial in my pocket
Awesome!
Re: Marsupial in my pocket
I hope he doesn't poo in there. he looks very content and relaxed...
I do not understand the appeal of this shirt AT ALL. It's not creative. It has no joke, no story, no silliness, no anything but "cute."
kylemittskus wrote:... no anything but "cute."

Back to the shirt ... fake pockets are not my thing, so no vote from me. Still, thank you for NOT doing another turbunguin.

I second that.

With you 100%.

a quick look reveals these "cute":
→ we are not cuddly!
beware the drop bear
budgie
knucks
→ the ultimate staring contest
and the following "nice":
walkin' about
pointillizard
outback
rainbow lorikeet
there are others, but this is all the time I feel like spending. Look, they're freaking *tee shirts*, ok? We're not talking high art, they don't need to be profound- they're designs screen printed on cotton jersey. Yeah, sure, sometimes someone comes up with something really amazing, sometimes a particular design makes a big impression on someone because it tickles their funny bone, reminds them of something they like, or a particular design strikes them as creative or well done. Other times, well, they're nice t-shirt designs. So just get over yourself and your whining. Take them for what they are- nice designs, or not. If you want to discuss high art, go get trained as a docent and give tours someplace- but last I checked (I didn't), there isn't a Museum of Shirt.Woot.
kylemittskus wrote:I do not understand the appeal of this shirt AT ALL. It's not creative. It has no joke, no story, no silliness, no anything but "cute."
Has it ever occurred to you that maybe that's what other people want? There are plenty of shirts in the derby that have no story or silliness, I don't see you whining about them. Or are you just jumping on this design simply because it's by Ramy?
Knarpulous wrote:Or are you just jumping on this design simply because it's by Ramy?
Probably this. Some folks will never be pleased with his work because of the past, no matter how much has changed.
FWIW, my perspective moved from negative to neutral. There's still a ways to go, of which only time will prove, but I have voted (and purchased) when warranted. And I will unvote when warranted too; the last turbunny design yielded two unvotes. ^_^
Re: Marsupial in my pocket
ADORABLE!
Re: Marsupial in my pocket
This is ridiculously cute.
Re: Marsupial in my pocket
What has this koala so...aroused?
Re: Marsupial in my pocket
Call me crazy, but it looks like this koala has some really messed up back legs. I mean, just look at how tiny they are compared to his front legs.
Re: Marsupial in my pocket
Cute!
jupilberry wrote:What has this koala so...aroused?
There's eucalyptus in his pocket. That, or he's just happy to see you.

Koalas are aggressive little guys that lie around all day making horrible sounds

ungh, food coma
Isn't the joke/silliness of this shirt the fact that it's a koala in a pocket/pouch or am I reading way too into it?
Re: Marsupial in my pocket
I like this one, though I wish the shirt color had been Grass Green or Kelly Green instead of Slate.
You use a lot of grey shirt's for your designs Ramyb. I know people will complain about any shirt color... but I have a lot of grey in my shirt pile right now. =P
Anyway thought I'd mention it for the futureeeee....
Re: Marsupial in my pocket
To all the people having a conniption over this design, I'm starting to think you need to cool your jets and remember... this is just a t-shirt. It's not going to be displayed in the Louvre and it's not going to be the piece of art that defines our generation. You're all acting like someone just took a utility knife to the Mona Lisa! How about this, lets all just take it for what it is and calm down a bit before someone has an aneurysm.
Ooh ooh can I be "that guy" and post links to this shirt being done on other sites already?

http://www.cafepress.com/kiniart/4028138
It's not really that I think he stole the design or whatever it's just that the concept is so boring and common that cafepress and zazzle both have full pages of shirts dedicated to "animal in pocket" designs.
Please remember to focus your comments on the design itself. Comments that are not about the design or that are deemed as trolling will be deleted and the poster may be probated.

Re: Marsupial in my pocket
I think it's wrong to set up art and t-shirts as mutually exclusive things. The people that ride Ramy aren't suggesting that t-shirts should be a medium for museum quality art.
But the other issue is the fact that there isn't any reason why t-shirts CAN'T be a medium for that kind of art. I think it is HIGHLY disingenuous to reduce the criticism that those posters are making to the absurd suggestion that it's just a t-shirt, so their criticisms are invalid. After all, there are almost ALWAYS derby entries that fog or hang out around the fog that could qualify as art.
Specifically about the design, I'm not a fan of fake pocket shirts either, but in terms of what we usually get from Ramy, I think this is a step in the right direction. It's still his style and a cute, fluffy animal, but I have to give Ramy credit for the koala actually being recognizable and free of any of the typical deformities or issues that his style usually gives to the fluffy critters he likes. I think he also pulled off the pocket illusion well, even if I don't know how good it will look on a shirt on a person.
I'm also curious how the placement on a female will look.

I've actually noticed that he's been using green for his shirt colors pretty much every Derby recently. Usually with green-on-green-on-green color palettes as well.

Shirt.what is about as close as you'll get.
As for the design, it's cute. Not my style, but I know plenty of people who would jump all over this.

That would make this a "similar shirts exist" violation.
Now taking bets on if the rejectionator cares.

Yes, thank you. There IS a joke, albeit a weak one. Marsupials have pockets, this marsupial is in a pocket, it happens to be your pocket. Therefore, it is not "slapping a koala on a shirt," it has a point.
And yes, it is cutesy, and I wouldn't be caught dead wearing it, but I could see this shirt on other people.
Overall, a solid design from ramyb.

One More Gimlet! i would buy this in a heartbeat! i would love it as a hoodie TOO!!

Oh I checked Shirt.what and you're right, he has been using green for many of his designs... the green ones just haven't been printing. Hmm, well I do think green would have been nice for this design as well. =P

Marsupials are born and develop in their mother's pouches, or pockets

I have to disagree, the joke might have worked if the pocket had been on the belly of the shirt but as is I find nothing original or amusing about the design.
nabesmer wrote:I have to disagree, the joke might have worked if the pocket had been on the belly of the shirt but as is I find nothing original or amusing about the design.
But no t-shirts have a pocket in the middle of the belly. It works based off of our knowledge of a shirt pocket. The marsupial, with a pocket, is residing in a shirt pocket. I fail to see how this is difficult to understand.
As for not finding it amusing, I definitely see where you're coming from. It lacks a certain cleverness I've come to expect from shirt.woot.

It's not difficult to understand, I get it. My entire point was that due to our knowledge base of shirt pockets and the fact that this is a drawn on pocket on a shirt the same gray of the koala, I personally would find it pretty darned amusing to see someone walking around with a tshirt that made them look like a koala mama wannabe...then again maybe my sense of humor is just a little warped ![]()
Re: Marsupial in my pocket
This needs to happen.

I understand now, but it was more fun to be condescending
I think your joke would be interesting on a sweatshirt that has that middle pocket.
And to keep this comment on the shirt design: I must say, that koala is absolutely adorable.
Re: Marsupial in my pocket
This shirt is actually fantastically creative in it's irony. Koala's in real life are in no way cute. They sit around making disturbing sounds, they short out power lines, and they spread Chlamydia. lol.
Re: Marsupial in my pocket
Love this!
Re: Marsupial in my pocket
sorry I'm so new at shirtwoot! i heard that only certain "reckoning" shirts are buyable and this makes me sad!!!!
..... while i was work i asked a customer where he got it, told me shirt.woot finally looked it up and it seems like you can't buy it anymore! can anyone tell me if there is a way to buy it?
