Re: Flying Lessons

Flying Squirrels have evolved to have a thin, aerofoil-like body shape that gives them a high lift to drag ratio. The other kind of squirrels are... not really cut out for gliding.

This is a five color, slate tee. See a BIG VERSION here!

Please vote if you like this design, thanks for looking. ^__^

Here you go, and welcome!
Who can vote in the Derby?
Woot users who have previously made at least one purchase at any Woot site. See, we don't want people to create multiple accounts and stuff the ballot box. And we also want to make sure the winning designs are actually ones that our regular users would like to see. This restriction might seem anti-democratic, but voter fraud and prank voting are worse. And like we said - all you need to vote is one purchase on your account record, ever, at any Woot site. Even Bags O' Crap and LeakFrogs qualify.

I'm just hanging out, really.

This is the most adorable design ever. Don't tell me you've never had a moment where you tried to flap your arms just in case you could fly...

Re: Flying Lessons

Of the users who consistently make the fog every week, you're the only one with good designs. Thanks for providing some competition for the usual doldrums of ubiquitous PP and RAMYB designs

No text-only designs. Confused as to why RamyB's, "Schrödinger's Equation" doesn't count as text-only.

I don't know...but I think I'd actually like this a lot more if it was just the flying squirrel part...I know you are going for comedy, but there is something beautiful abuot how an actual squirrel can defy gravity... I'd buy if it was just the flying squirrel/math part...

just my oppinion. I love your work though! You always come out with great designs!

I find this adorable, despite the unfortunate state of the squirrel trying to emulate his airborne cousins. :'D Suffering is cute!

The flying squirrel is just so elegant, it really expresses the beauty of nature, while the other squirrel is just goofy. But hey, I guess people like goofy.
I like the colors, though.

Hey, I like the idea, but I think the art style is just so unoriginal. This is like every other woot-shirt-with-a-cute-animal-on-it, yah know? No offense. I just kind of wish there was more variance in art styles in the derby each week.
Good job though!

Good effort by the squirrel - hope she's got a big pile of leaves under her to land in!

Very cute design; should be popular in kiddo sizes, too.

Regretably the "cute-style" wins on a regular basis. If a designer is trying to suppliment income in a tough economy then they have to start appealing to the masses. A more true statement would be I wish more people voted on the variety of art styles instead of propelling the woot-shirt-with-a-cute-animal-on-it into the win spot. Its not the designers its the voters.

  • Congratulations on winning a Best Loser Award!
  • This is not SPAM.
  • Winning a BLA does NOT mean this shirt won't print -- I'm hoping it does.
  • Your one and only gift is this crappy little badge in your shirt thread. Enjoy.
  • Not even the wind from the rocks is left breathing.

Re: Flying Lessons

Thanks for the BLA, Robert!

I really appreciate all the support and comments. :^)

As for the style, the funny thing is I seem to change things up every time I draw squirrels. (comic bookish, more realistic). In this case having a chubby, cute, unwieldy character felt like the natural choice, because it played funnier against the sleek scientific ideal.
