I sure hope those UFOs possess TARDIS-like technology; otherwise, no clue how those penguins are going to fit inside.

Oy, again with the penguins!

There must be a population surge of the little tuxedo-clad beggars lately, I think I need to come up with a recipe for penguin stir-fry...

Cute shirt, as always, but man, we need to see some different critters...

I have Big Love for your penguin shirts. I wear the Imposter shirt more than any other woot shirt. Hope this wins!

There is going to be a wave of people speaking out against this shirt for the usual reasons and unfortunately this time I'm among them.

Love your other shirts though! Keep on pumping em out, this one just doesn't cut it for me.

Re: Unidentified Flying Penguin

I feel like users need to be limited to one entry per derby. You have great designs, RAMYB, REALLY great designs. Many of which I have purchased, even while on the reckoning page.

However, I really would love to see some new talent, new style in the fog. There's A LOT of great designs out there that are being squelched due to over-popularity of half a dozen users.

This isn't a hate-message. I love MOST of your designs ( ;) ), and I always will...I would just like to see more variety, lately, from my shirt.woot.

I can't help but think Ramy submitted this one just to taunt his critics.

I agree that the abduction beam is nice, but the design is otherwise unremarkable.

I went to a zoo once. Contrary to popular belief, animals besides penguins, turtles, and bunnies do in fact exist.

If that's the case, what Ramy is doing, is completely proving my point. This derby is less and less about good, creative designs, and becoming more about a popularity contest of users.

Just wait for next Friday as PP, RAMYB and others list their designs and watch as the hordes sail in, immediately and unprecedented, all offering the best comment they possibly can, in the hopes that they might be worthy of the designers' attentions.

The vast, vast majority of users on this site are not designers. I think if everyone had at least designed for and entered into one or two derbies, there would be more honesty in voting.

I can attest for myself and several friends, that there have been weeks upon weeks of lost business from us because a couple REALLY good shirts lost to a few designs by popular users.

Thank God Woot still picks some good shirts for the regulars on Monday - Thursday.

I got really excited when this shirt dropped out of the fog. And now..............it's back. I am in agreement with everyone else. There's just much too much penguin!!!

I will not argue with your opinions in the rest of your post, but this particular point simply should not be in my thread. You can say what you want about my shirts, but certainly not that they don't sell. In fact, there have been many weeks in which my designs outsold other shirts that placed ahead of them. This week my design got 3rd place but sold nearly double the first place shirt and five times the second place. The fact that I have designs that have been in the reckoning for only a couple of weeks doesn't mean that they fell flat, only that they won a few weeks ago. Has every design of mine done extremely well in sales? No, but my sales are definitely well above average on woot, and that's something I pride myself on. Perhaps what you are saying is true of other "popular" designers, but in that case you should take this discussion to a different thread.

You're absolutely right here. I was too broad in my judgement there, recalling a large number of shirts from popular users, and not specifically yours (I looked through, and the *only* shirt of yours that would fit the category I suggested would be "I'm Just Doing My Job").

As it doesn't belong on your thread, I removed it from my post, sorry for the misdirected accusation.

Despite how I feel about "popular" users in general, I don't hate any of them. I wasn't joking that I own several of your designs, as I buy strictly on a would-I-wear-this basis. I just don't like what the system has developed into, and think that Woot could try a few a things to boost the creativity a little more, and give some other users a chance.

Perhaps limiting to one entry per derby, or simply making all entries anonymous...though that would be limited as well (your penguins are hard to miss ;) ). Hope there's no hard feelings

Definitely not- I can see where you are coming from, and have been trying to at least provide some variety within my own entries (if you look at my three in the reckoning, each is entirely different in style)- This derby is a slightly unfair one to judge, since it is style limited to "kawaii," but in general I have been trying to go in different directions with my entries. I don't think there is a way to devise a perfect system of voting or submitting, but I agree with you that woot could take a couple of measures to ensure more variety in the derbies. I'm just not sure limiting to one entry per person is the best way to do it- It runs into a lot of issues- for example, if an entry gets rejected for a minor reason, can the user resubmit it? And what of collabs? Plus, some users (like pspens) generally limit themselves to one entry and win half the time anyway.

Anyway, I'm just rambling now, but I wanted to say definitely no hard feelings and I can understand where your frustration is coming from

I definitely notice you have more variety than a lot of people claim you do, especially with the outback and Aztec sunset

I appreciate that, and I do love penguins (Killer Penguin is a favorite, and I'm sorely disappointed that I missed out on Emperor Penguin)...

But instead of variety or quantity, could you please think of original and creative designs that are executed exceptionally well?

What I'm saying, really, is that this penguin shirt is a disappointment - How is the penguin unidentified at all? Why are miniature UFO's picking up relatively giant penguins? How is it funny, or is it some odd reference to something? It also just lacks detail.

It would add some meaning to the shirt, since it's not one of those shirts where you just stare at it because it's so creative and unique or flabbergastingly awesome or simply beautiful art. I never said "All shirts must be funny" and I would never want all shirts to be funny.

I vote for shirts that I'll wear. Sure, some of them might be pop-culture; some might be funny; but others, I'll vote for the one that just plain looks amazing - it doesn't matter if it's funny or has some reference.
