Carbon is ahead of the game. His coffee is finished and the cup has already been deposited in the correct receptacle.

Wish you had visually represented the double bonds, but that's just the chem major in me being picky. Nice job.

My design was a springboard from a design I subbed for a daily. Any similarities to the many molecule designs out there are purely coincidental. I certainly didn't rip anyone off.

Though I understand the similarities between the anthropomorphic molecules of caffeine in the designs, this is hardly an original idea. In fact I've seen dozens of shirts involving molecular structures of things acting like what they are. What Fishbiscuit did here is take it a step farther and relate this quite intelligently to role playing games. I applaud her design because it's incredibly wearable and clever.

Furthermore, in the future, how about PM'ing the artist instead of openly and publicly claiming she ripped off another artist when she clearly didn't.

Love the design and hope it makes it into the final 3 because if so you can count me down for a least one and maybe two.

It will be interesting to watch the progression of this design considering the reaction to Ramy's prior design.

In my opinion, this concept is a natural one. You ever notice some derbies when 6 or 7 artists have the same concept with different execution? That's because they stumbled on a natural idea. I've seen this concept done many different ways, and in this case it's the execution that makes it original.

I can see how this can cause a controversy which should lead to a discussion, not openly tarring and feathering an artist who has always been honest and a class act. It happens a lot on here where people jump down an artist's throat and call them a cheater and accuse them of plagiarism when in fact they most likely never saw the previous design referenced. The fact of the matter is that as tee shirt artists, we try to be clever and original, but on or quest to be cute, funny, clever, and original, we stumble on ideas that have been done. It doesn't make us cheaters, it just means that sometimes, great minds think alike. It also doesn't negate that artist's new take on this subject. Like I said before, the artist's execution usually makes the subject relevant.

I've seen blatant rip-offs and I've seen accidental stumbling on the same concept, and I know the difference.

I really like this one, and hope it prints. I think the whole "controversy" around this design is silly. FB isn't a rip-off artist, and I agree with what Alex (DJTweek) was saying earlier in the thread.

I only mentioned it because I know you have been around threadless for like 2 years meaning there are fairly good odds you had seen one of those two links , either way theres no bad blood,(hell I am fairly sure I have sent you free shirts afterall) perhaps 'do your research a little better' would be a better off the cuff remark.

To be honest when I saw the thumbnail I thought for sure it was Ramyb, he's done molecules, caffeine, and caffeine molecules already and we all know how he recycles. Not much you can do with smiley face atoms to differentiate yourself IMO.

I don't think I've ever had an issue with fishbiscuit before so no nerd outrage here. I think I'm mostly just apathetic now with the lack of creativity and diversity around here these days.

Honestly, Randyotter, I don't really check in on threadless that much. I've always supported your work and bought your shirts, so I'm disappointed that you chose a public forum to make accusations against me. I don't steal, I don't cheat and I do as much research as I can but sometimes coincidences just happen.

Thanks, bluetuba. I try to be honest and keep my nose clean. Sadly, I think my more diverse designs don't do as well here. Cutesy molecules aren't that creative, but I had fun drawing these and I do love coffee and gaming, so, this is the end result I suppose. I hope people like it enough to keep voting. I think it's a likable, wearable design.

Fish, this is a contest to appeal to the voters. There's nothing wrong with trying your best to do something everyone will enjoy ^_^. People loves them some coffee, including me! I dont see anything wrong here at all. As much as we all want to be whimsical, the fact is we're trying to convince people to like what we do. The more we do that, the better we do in this particular arena.

Also, it's -very- poor form to publicly accuse artists of theft >. I've seen it happen so often here, I've been accused of it, and it feels utterly horrible (assuming said accusation is false, which 90% of the time it is). As artists we all draw from the same pools of inspiration. I've seen people draw something that was so close to something else that they'd -never- seen before. It happens. Cute molecule art has been around forever. I dont think anyone can claim ownership of this concept. It's like someone claiming ownership of anthropomorphic food. It's everywhere.

I think this is a cute shirt and I can see the theme clearly. It's definitely an everyday item. This could have easily depicted a standard cup of coffee, but instead it's the molecular form of caffeine. ^^

Just to echo others' sentiments, FB5's ethics have always been above and beyond. Sometimes good, effective ideas are similar. Doesnt mean there was theft or anyone ripped anyone else off.

My favorite, I really hope this prints. When I saw the RPG theme I figured nothing would appeal to me as that's not really my thing, but coffee is!

I'd gladly buy this if it gets printed. I love the simplicity of the overall design including color choices and facial expressions. It get's the message across. Plus, it's just so darn cute.

Interestingly enough the Caffeine shirt I like best, of the small percentage I've seen, is that one on Redbubble linked in the ramyb thread.
It equated caffeine with electrons, and the only atoms that were happy were the ones with electrons (depicted as coffee cups). It seemed to have given more thought to the standard design.

While I don't think that this artist stole work, the similar shirt rule isn't exactly the same thing as stolen art. And I am in the 'cliched Idea should get the axe' (for similar shirt) crowd. Though that is IMO, not woot's. Since woot didn't reject Ramyb's I would also hope for consistency.

Edit: I mean hydrogen, for some reason I only think of H as a floating electron.

I know right!? Haha I was thinking the same thing. This is an adorable shirt and I would love to wear it. I might even have to start drinking coffee again from seeing this.

Great work and doesn't look like a stolen design to me!!!!
