Stupid dsylxia - the title should actually be 1968....

1968: LBJ Mandates that all government computers must support ASCII.
1968: 2001: A Space Odyssey is released

You don't have a clue what this is, do you? LOL. This is from 1968 not 1986, the artist corrected the title typo on his first comment...

Lyonscc - the binary numbers fit the design way better than the year, nice fix!

Cool idea, but why are the letters cut off? That's not how ASCII art is supposed to work.

There are rules for how art is supposed to work?!

:-) That's something my art teacher used to say to me (and she's been publishing stuff for years now!)

ASCII art (at least the kind I used to mess around with) was of two flavors:

1) Pure text (typically black & white), where the characters varied to make the picture.

2) Color HTML, where you varied the color of the characters to make the picture, often times spelling out specific words or sentences in the text, itself.

I chose the latter route in this derby...

I'm sorry pseudomega. I'm afraid I can't answer that.

According to super reliable sources (i.e. Wikipedia), HAL became operational on Jan. 12, 1992 (in the fictional universe). Theoretically , I could design a T-shirt based on HAL. Too bad you've blown any idea I would have had out of the water with this design.

Thank you all! I agree that HAL is one of the best movie villains of all time. The cold calmness cements it...

The design itself could stand to be a little smaller on the shirt, but I'm in.

This is, by far, the best design in the contest (imho). So being in 10th place is sucking. How do I get one of these tshirts if it doesn't win?

Thanks! There's always a chance it could receive an Honorable Mention, and make it to the next Derby of HM's. If not, I may try to submit it at another site.

Cool. That would be good. I just hope it wins here.

Re: 1986: An ASCII Odyessy

I'm very saddened by this shirt not getting top 3.

maybe I should start voting for every shirt I don't want to buy. Because the last 10 or so shirts I've wanted to buy have all either just missed the fog or been in the fog but not top 3.

When did the Woot Community get jacked by people who like terrible shirts?
