tweaked and resubbed.

Inspired by the discovery in 1974 of "Lucy," a 3.2 million-year-old female hominid of the species Australopithecus afarensis, was discovered by scientists in Ethiopia's Afar Depression.

This. Is. AWFUL. I love it! +1

(BTW - meant awful as in "warped, twisted, slightly disturbing", AKA, all the things I love )

Ugh, not normally a Peanuts fan, but as an anthropologist I can't help myself. Would totally wear this.

Hello fellow 1974-ite.

I don't like the Peanuts cartoon, but this a clever idea. Seems too big on the shirt, maybe shrink up the image size some.

Voted anyhow good luck.

Great! But on a nit-picky note that huge fingerprint is somewhat odd. Great concept though!

Check out my Food design please!

Re: 1974: Lucy Discovered

much preferred the original version, as Lucy's face is much more expressive in it. naughty Woot censor! boo!

still love this design though. hope it prints (Lucy - not the Peanuts one - takes me back to my childhood days).

I really like the shirt, but I will say, it's already been done as a Farside cartoon >.>

Yep... pretty much a direct lift from the cartoon.

let me just nip this in the bud right now. I didn't steal this idea from the far side. only after reading these comments I did a google search on the comic in question which is this:

Previous to working on my design I searched as well and never came across this far side comic. So I thought the idea was fresh and funny and just like the Simpsons, its been done before. But this is not a direct lift as you stated tarmawolf as you can see from the original comic. As to it being done as a tee design, I can asure it has not.

Thank you to everyone else who has supported this design and dig it.

So the shirt will only be sold on here if it wins? I'm new to this site. I hope your design wins, because I love it and want to wear it.

Good luck!

Put on your sunglasses and take out your sharpies, kids. It's time for some sneaky signwriting.

That's right.
If you really want to support this design, you can buy a shirt in the Reckoning, so then you will be able to vote for it... ; )

Agreed. It's completely different. Ideas can't be copy written, that doesn't even make any sense. It isn't similar in composition, style, or color, so it was not "lifted". Just wanted to clarify and let the artist know that they're design is great. And even if someone has had a similar idea, it's because great minds think alike.

Check out my Food design please!

This is awesome, as a fellow 1974 baby, happy to give that needed push! I'm also told I have "Lucy-like" personality traits. Must have!

Re: 1974: Lucy Discovered

I'm having trouble understanding why a design like this would be rejected. It seems to be altered enough from the original Peanuts cartoon... Can someone please explain to me why a shirt like "Year of the Plumber" wouldn't be rejected when the elements in that design appear far more similar to the Mario games than this one does to the Peanuts comic? Not that I'd want either to be rejected but I'm having a hard time understanding the fine line of copyright infringement.

Just because Charles Schultz is dead doesn't mean his lawyers are. I've heard they are ruthlessly protective of the Peanuts brand, despite the fact that there hasn't been a new strip created in 12 years.

Yeah, so there's that...

just as a final fyi, I appreciate everyone that supported and vote for this design. although woot has decided that this design is not something they can print I will try to make this available after the 60 day hold for people who may still be interested in the design elsewhere.
