Re: we're not unreasonable
Great work all around, plus extra points for the title.
Very nicely done!

I don't do zombies but I have to say that's a nice job, Apelad.

JoCo would be proud.

Awesomeness.

Re: we're not unreasonable
That's excellent use of one color. Good luck I hope this prints.
Re: we're not unreasonable
Good drawing, but isn't it kinda unimaginative to simply use a mask (knock-out) of letters over a drawing to make the words. I mean, this derby had such potential for creativity and doing this, as also was done in NINJA, seems kinda phoned in...
Re: we're not unreasonable
It even looks like the outline of a brain! nice job.

I've noticed that too with a bunch of entries. I think Woot is often too vague with their derby description and rules.
In my opinion, things with a clipping mask do not meet the spirt of this derby. Also, there are entries that use letters to form letters, instead of objects oriented/drawn in such a way to resemble letters.
I don't blame the artist and there are some great entries that don't meet *my* interpretation of the theme. I just think this is a case where more direction from Woot would have been nice.

Just a clarification: this isn't a mask slapped on a crowd drawing. The letters are part of the original idea:

I don't know that this says anything to the point you were trying to make, but I thought it might be interesting to point out.
Also: as a regular derby entrant, I really appreciate the vagueness of the rules. It makes things interesting.
Thanks for commenting!

Welp, I don't give two craps if it's not exactly what they intended, I'd buy this thing easy!

Well done with the reference. Not a bad shirt either ![]()

OK gentlemen...
We're at an impasse, maybe we should compromise.
(sorry, had to say it!)

Actually, I knew you didn't use a clipping mask because I saw your pre-derby sketches. I just meant the end result in general could be achieved with a clipping mask, albeit with less skill and artistry, instead of using objects oriented in such a way to form art. (I think you know what I mean.) I wasn't targeting this entry specifically, just that this derby has various interpretations and I could see how other artists could get frustrated if they thought they had to do something a specific way, only to see that they could have used a different approach. I'm surprised to see entries made up of letters formed with letters/numbers, but if it's good enough for Woot, it's good enough for me!

I totally get what you're saying. Sorry if I came across as snarky.

I think it's a good clarification - filling letters with a crowd and making it look like it could be a simple crowd image with a clipping mask over it is a pretty cool feat I'd say. I don't see it as "easier" than the other derby approach of shaping objects into letters or words. And I agree, loose rules make for multiple & interesting executions.
Keep it up, Apelad! i can't wait to see if I can get these for my whole family Sat or Sun.

Alas, the answer is no. But I'm giving away the original drawing for this on my blog.
Re: we're not unreasonable
This is what shirt.woot.com needs! It is a shame this didn't win or get made into a shirt. Sometimes, this damn site makes me so sick of its selections. Great job, hopefully, we can see more of this type of work become the norm.
