Re: Loyal Friend

Loyalty - the willingness to make a personal sacrifice to strengthen a relationship.

I consider myself a Loyal Friend. So, if any of my buddies turns into a zombie, they can count on me to "help" them!

This might be a silly question, but does double tap refer to shotguns? And I guess my follow up question would be are those shotgun shells?

"Double Tap" is the second rule to survive the zombie apocalypse as stated in the movie Zombieland. It basically means that you should always shot a zombie a second time (in the head), to make sure it is really dead.

And yes, those are shotgun shells.

Re: Loyal Friend

I just don't think it works. There needs to be some kind of actual zombie reference here or people are going to just think it's referring to homicide, or assassins, or drug dealers. "Sure I'm willing to kill all my friends for some vague unspecified reason that you can make up yourself!"

I get that you were inspired by Zombieland or whatever, but that line isn't from that movie, and Zombieland certainly isn't what most people think of with the term 'double tap'. It's military lingo for 2 quick shots to the target on as close to the same spot as possible. Furthermore you don't double tap with a shotgun anyway, so your shotgun shells don't make much sense with the slogan.

"You can't just dress a Minion like Spock, and add a caption that says "Logical Me". There's a prison for people like that. Below my house."

I agree. I have watched Zombieland several times, and I didn't make the connection. I understand the artist's intention from reading his description, but as it is, it's just a disturbing shirt.

I actually thought of Zombieland immediately, and I only saw the movie once when it first came out on DVD.

The way the text is done is reminiscent of the way we received the "rules" in the movie http://xmonsterhunter.blogspot.com/2009/11/zombieland-mini-review.html and "Double Tap" is actually rule #2.

I actually kinda like this one, but have some concerns when it comes to the rejectionator as there are other "Double Tap" shirts out there. This one seems more detailed than those though.

Is it just me or do most of the designs so far seem to be missing the topic?

I thOught of ZOMBIELAND immediately. I liked the reference but not the design. The shirt seems too crude which is weird because I love me some zombies. Nice try though.

Way to just barely skirt the "No Text Only" rule. There really isn't much artistry in this, nor does it even really fit the theme. How is shooting someone a sign of inner beauty?

I haven't seen a zombie move since Dawn of the Dead (the original), and I got the reference due to its inherent memeness.

Still, I also don't think it's anywhere near on topic, but TPTB have to decide that, so...meh.

move along

Interesting, I have never seen the movie but thought of it. Though I don't have any military minded around to give me bluetuba's explanation.

I IMMEDIATELY thought of Zombies, though not Zombieland. If this prints, I'm in for at least two. My girlfriend and I have this inside joke about this topic.

The rule was no text only. He included the shotgun shells, which means there's more than just text.
I like the shirt, and I got the reference right off, but as a general shirt, it's missing reference to what that time is. I would like it a lot better if it had a zombie, or said something "When the zombie apocalypse comes.." Because I would.

What does this shirt have to do with the message of inner beauty?

The message is awfully violent, even if it is a reference to Zombieland. If someone wears this shirt, all of the people who haven't seen Zombieland will probably think that the person wearing this shirt is a violent person.

I've never seen the movie or watched the walking dead or anything zombie related, and i knew what the shirt was about.

Not only do I hate this design, but I'd be very afraid of anyone who wore it.

Re: Loyal Friend

I don't have the same problem everyone else is complaining about... in fact I like this design...

The problem I DO have is, the falling shells have not been fired yet. The Primers are still solid on the bottom. A fired shell's primer has a puncture in the middle.

What you've described is referred to as a 'controlled pair,' actually. To 'double tap' is technically correct in this instance, and in the movie Zombieland. It is a second shot, a coup de grâce, and generally frowned upon in the military.

I'll get to it.

For those questioning the design's relation to the "inner beauty" theme, what I took from it was that while the person may be doing something that appears outwardly violent (killing his friends) he's actually doing so out of a sense of loyalty and love on the inside - protecting his loved ones from an existence of rotting flesh and craving brains.

The more I think about it the more I like it... then again, my sense of humor has a little sick twist to it ;) .

LOL

A double tap and a controlled pair aren't exactly the same thing, but they are both 2 very fast shots. It's not anything like a coup de grâce, which is the finishing off of a wounded target, or "just to be sure it's dead" in Zombieland.

This shirt is questionably on theme, basically a slogan shirt, and IMO too vague a reference for what it's going for.

Got the ZombieLand reference, but I wish you'd used bullets instead of shotgun shells. The likelihood of needing to double tap with a shotgun and the wisdom of doing so is pretty questionable, even in a hypothetical zombie apocalypse.

Hm I got that it was from Zombieland but the shotgun shells don't really match.

Re: Loyal Friend

I figured out it was zombie-related.

But:
1> not explicitly clear from design. This could make some problems in today's security-paranoid world. Can you imagine wearing this trough a TSA checkpoint?

2> Shotgun shells? For a double tap? And UNFIRED shells? ...boo.

3> ...inner beauty? not seeing it.

I'd like to see a reworked version of this in an appropriate derby. Love the concept, not the application here. Sorry.

Ditto, except I had no idea it was Zombie related until I read the comments.

Thank You! That's exactly what my design is about. You really understood the theme behind it.

The reason I used shotgun shells is because the main character in the movie uses a shotgun, even when explaining the Double Tap rule. That's the reference.

And thanks to everyone that has supported it so far. I could sit here all day defending my design, but it's very nice to see that people that liked it are doing it for me. It means a lot to me, you guys rock.

I think that the only people that don't get the "message" are the few that negatively criticized it because CLEARLY a lot of people like and understand it. As always, ingenious creation.

I do "get" the message. I still don't like it. When walking around town with this on, not very many people are going to "get" that it came from a WOOT derby themed: inner beauty. They will see a violent and repulsive shirt, just as I do.
