Re: Hitchhikers Error
A little close to being a text-only shirt. At least it breaks the spirit of the no text-only rule, anyway.

I don't think it's fair to say this breaks the spirit of the no text rule when shirts where the sole graphical component is the words forming an image have passed. There are graphical components here. Heck, the graphical component here is just as good as the ones in all of the Keep Calm and Carry On parodies.

A little close yes I agree to that, but there is another woot rule that they use occasionally called no text centric designs. Since that rule is not in place I don't believe I have broken the spirit of the rule at all.
Re: Hitchhikers Error
Looks like an all text shirt to me
BSOD is iconic. It is as visual as a stop sign.
Which is why this doesn't look right.
Typeface matters.

As a woman I would not want someone staring at my chest to read this whole thing... awkward!!

I agree. But think how weird it would be for a man to have someone staring at his chest! It could lower his self-esteem.

Agreed.
Re: Hitchhikers Error
wow... these winning shirts are really pushing the envelope on the "no text only shirts" rule
Re: Hitchhikers Error
Please tell me that the really insignificant hand excuses this from the "no text-only" rule.

It does.
No text only is so that you don't type out some slogan in a random font and plop it on here. Last time that happened, it was bad.

You mean, exactly like this shirt has done?

I'm sorry you seem to have a bone to pick with my design. I just follow the rules as they have been described.

Pointing out a legitimate issue is not "having a bone to pick". For all intents and purposes, this is a text-only design. (Hint: If you can remove all the "images" from a shirt and it works just as well, it is a text-only shirt)

I don't care about your shirt. I'm not a designer, I have no interest in any of these shirts, and know no one who has a design. I have no dog in the fight.
My problem is that your entire shirt is predicated on the words. And unfortunately for you (or at least it should be), this isn't the "Words on a shirt" derby. You added the random thumbs up image to skirt around the no-text rule. And I'm calling foul.

What both of you are arguing is called Text-Centric. Woot has a different rule for that. Text-only and Text-Centric are not the same. And its not a random thumbs-up this is Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy...

I'll concede your point, but this shirt doesn't seem to fit into the spirit of this derby. It feels like a technicality.
Re: Hitchhikers Error
I find it odd that everyone is attacking shikausstan and no one has attacked toby8915 who is currently in the fog. I think shikausstan's design could use some font work, but it is more creative than toby's.

Just my opinion, of course.

I agree! There are so many websites now that let you generate your own "keep calm" memes and print them on shirts
