Re: Turtles All The Way Down

A well-known scientist (some say it was Bertrand Russell) once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the earth orbits around the sun and how the sun, in turn, orbits around the center of a vast collection of stars called our galaxy. At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: “What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise.” The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, “What is the tortoise standing on?” “You’re very clever, young man, very clever,” said the old lady. “But it’s turtles all the way down!”

I'd buy one each for the whole family! Ok, there are only three of us, but still... I really really want this to win!

LMAO. Gotta love Disc worldians...
(for those not familiar, Disc World is a novel series by Terry Pratchett.)

Believe this reference goes down further than that... ;)

I guess I didn't get the teapot thing. Is that a reference to something, or just randomness? I thought about adding a flying toaster for fun, but I didn't want to distract too much.

I love this shirt btw...
I hope it does well... Not sure if it is more obscure than the "Science is cool" crowd here though...

Wow, this must have taken you a long time to do all those turtles! Interesting concept and use of perspective.

I'd love this one if that first turtle wasn't standing and holding the plant.

I just thought it was more interesting that way. My first thought was of Atlas holding the Earth. That would be a really bad job. Then I thought of the turtles, and wanted to give a sense of precariousness to the whole pile, so I had him holding it up Atlas style.

Thanks viridiancat! I actually think my perspective is a bit wonky, and my construction could use some help too, but it is what it is. I just wanted to get the idea out.

Thanks for the support everyone! I think I overreached a little with this one, as far as technical skill goes, but I just had to get the image out of my head. Excelsior, to the next derby!

1) This story is completely anecdotal. It's unclear where the phrase originated.

2) I clicked through because the thumbnail looked like the turtles were boinking and I was curious as to how it hadn't been rejectionated. I see I was quite wrong :P
