I'd vote but a) you obviously don't care about the rules since this is in no way incidental text and b) you obviously have no regard for artists' rights.

That's fine that you feel that way, you don't have to vote for it...The only reason I even have text in there is for people that aren't familiar with the show...otherwise it doesn't need it.

The line may refer to the show, but it fits for any case of a computer illiterate person and an IT person interacting. For someone with a degree (or 2+) in computer science, I'm sure the worst job ever is one where they have to deal with such simple and ridiculous situations.

IT Crowd rocks! The show could use some deserved accolades. Too few know about it.

[quote postid="5175856" user="omarfeliciano"]Not original work, sorry.

I did create the 8-bit characters from the intro to match the theme, but I didn't copy that image...I guess next time I can make them more illustrative if I do another IT Crowd design, its not going to be printed anyways. I appreciate the feedback though guys.

Really you could say that all of the Mario(or other popular themes) referenced designs are not original either because those images are also being re-created...its hard to create a "pop-culture" design without someone saying it is unoriginal...its all about the context I guess...IDK, I guess that's why so many people don't want pop culture references anymore.

I do understand your concerns though, I'll know for next time. Derby=Stressful blegh :/

The difference between your shirt and the Mario shirts is they aren't directly traced like this image obviously is. It's not surprising you don't understand this since you were defending the exact same thing in the Eye washer thread. You can use a reference. You can't trace. Reference = your own. Tracing = you're a thieving fink.

*rubs temples* It's called parody, you should look it up if you don't know what it means.

Mario depicted in the real word with a normal human cleaning up his mess is parody. Mario as a gardener is more iffy but notice you can't see his face and there are no trademarked symbols here, it's just some guy in a red hat and blue overalls that everybody just happens to know is supposed to be Mario.

You may have drawn those 8 bit characters yourself but they are exactly the same as the copyrighted TV show characters with no parody at all. Do you think Disney would let you get away with drawing Mickey Mouse on a shirt and just adding your own tagline? Of course not.

It's a fine line and alot of derby artists have gotten used to just barely staying on the right side of it. You can either learn how to do that or give it up.

Ok...well...you have all made your points and I am done with the derby until I feel that I have something really worth while...I can't stand seeing rude comments being made to anyone, constructive criticism is different...I wasn't trying to make people angry or submit something offensive...I was just tossing my concept out there, thanks for the opportunity, I learned a lot, but will stick with my day job and good luck to the rest of you artists!

*For Everyone: In the future, you don't have to be condescending or rude to get your point across...maybe my responses sounded too defensive or angry in some way and if it did I apologize...just something to keep in mind when posting over the internet where you never know who you are talking to and what kind of things they have been through or are going through.

You stole someone else's artwork and you're calling us rude for calling you out on it?!

Whoa...Chill out dude...I said you made your point I'm done and you still can't let it go?? I'm sure you are just a joy to be around...I tried being nice, I wasn't only talking about me...I have seen so many awful comments on here to multiple people about many different topics. So calm down and lets all just move on please.

Uh... no. Don't call people rude when they call you, or anyone else out, on their blatant theft. But I'll make sure to be nice to the guy stealing your car. I wouldn't want to be rude or anything.

I'm going to have to agree that what you did was not right, but I also think that the way others can let you know that, and explain why it wasn't doesn't have to be so harsh. The Derby is not for professionals, therefore people will make mistakes. I wish people with the same talents would learn that teaching and criticizing are two way different things and that teaching will get you a lot farther in life that the other. Don't quit, just do better next time.

Thanks Tia1982, I appreciate it...I learned a lot for the next time I want to submit something. I am an artist too and my intention wasn't to copy, I just thought the idea was funny or cute, but I see now that I should have illustrated it to be more different from the way it looks on the show.

Lots of learning goes on here, especially when someone is submitting to the derby. When things get tough (like the past few days) try and focus on the positives. Go and play around with different design ideas, remind yourself why you enjoy this. There will be good weeks too, don't forget that. Don't let this experience keep you from doing something you enjoy. It may take some time before you print, I think that happens in many cases, but don't give up. Take what happened, learn from it, and apply it to future derbies. Good luck!

That is what comments are for. Go to kindergarden if you want all the sunhsine and fluffy clouds.

Oh, for Pete's sake. There IS no reason to be so rude. I will never understand why people think referencing an image is the same as stealing a car. I kinda doubt Graham Linehan or his designers would be frothing at the mouth over a shirt on woot, so why are you? It's called misdirected anger. Look it up.

Love the shirt. And there's always redbubble. People tend to be less psycho over there. I've seen a lot of shirts here (which lose derbies) that I'd love to buy over there. Does woot get the rights to the image forever even if it never gets made?
