Here he is, Redburr, here he is!! ;D

Isn't the power of obsessive fans amazing? ^__^

I would think you'd realize that, if Fable wasn't rejected last week of all weeks when other shirts were (for the first time ever), that there's nothing fishy going on. :P

Don't take this the wrong way, but I don't quite see the point in you trolling Fablefire's designs week in and week out. Tobias has pointed out already that she does have a mailing list that's used to network to her fans. There's nothing wrong or disallowed with that. In fact, as a fairly unsuccessful artist here I'd kill for such a network (no, seriously, who do I have to kill to make this happen? ;P ). Is it possible that the people who vote for fable's designs aren't voting for anything else? Yes, possibly. But that's not Fable's fault. And I'm sure the same can be said for all the other artists who are pushing their works via FB, email, etc.

It's probably always been the case that artists have been networking this way, but it's just that with derby votes being so low now that when they do market their designs, it's much more noticeable because people aren't voting 24/7.

I typically stay out of these weekly arguments, but the truth is, rules or not, I just have no passion left to submit to woot derbies because of this stuff. Fable and other artists with large followings will not become less popular, so my odds of winning are never going to increase. I tell a few people about my designs, and ask them to vote because I have to, not because I want to. As an artist, I want to win an art competition because I make the best art, not the best friends.

Something that doesn't get mentioned much is that Fable does make an point of taking off from the derby following a win. I've always seen that as a fairly respectable thing to do.

As far as lesser known artists getting promoted, a consistent style and approach, creating characters that people can become familiar with, and branching out with your network are important. Fable also submits daily designs frequently; a successful shirt can help grow the fanbase as well.

From my personal perspective, if someone drew a really cool looking, pretty, fun fox design aside from Fable, I would do everything I could to spread it around. I know there are several others like me out there. Some day, there will be another shirt like Foxfall or Three Foxes or Leaf Break, and I'll do everything I can to boost that shirt up.

So really, best I can suggest comes down to familiarity, reaching out to people, establishing obsessive fans, and making sure to also submit daily designs.

PS: Oh yeah, and generating a fanbase for your artwork as a whole can allow people to become familiar with shirt.woot itself. :3

Alas, any place/site which depends solely popular votes will have such an issue, which was one of Adder's gripes in the past.

No doubt Fable has a respectable fan base, but still, she doesn't print all the time meaning that it's Woot's inherent audience that's still the driving the total votes. This compares to other artists (past and present) who print much more often but don't use social media.

Back to the design in context, it may just be a matter of time in which foxes will be banned for some derbies just as bunnies were for a while in the past.

I don't disagree on those points. I do get frustrated seeing designs shoot up the hotness. I also contemplate quitting quite often. But I figure that every now and then maybe I'll come up with a design that people like. And not being a professional artist, the derby at least gives me an excuse to sit once a week and draw something.

I just think that posting week in and week out on a specific artists designs is silly. At the very least one should question the works of every artist who submits and then immediately shoots up into the fog, because fable's not the only one. Frankly I would prefer to see voting totals increase so that networks and fan bases aren't such a deciding factor, but c'est la vie.

Re: To Boldly Fall

Well, if everyone who is voting for a favorite artist's shirt is also genuinely intending to buy it if it wins, then there shouldn't be a problem. According to Woot, to vote is to say "I'd want one." I respect that, and only vote when I would genuinely buy it. Do people vote without the intention of buying if printed? Probably. I just hope that no artist is encouraging that.

Might as well have a signature now since I have something to put into it.

Your best bet is to buy something (possibly one of these) and then you can click a button called 'I'd want one' which means you're voting on the design.
