Re: Hey There, Soldier

This is my first submission to the derby, and a great theme to start with. I adore ephemera, and the old war posters are so inspiring.

This is only my fourth submission, so I am still trying to execute a design... after the experienced people have 20 votes.

I think this is the best submission BY FAR.

...but there's a "no photographs" rule...

I've been going through the terms and conditions again (Sorry...I'm a newbie here), and I don't see anything about 'Royalty Free' images, and further, altering of copyright free images. As far as I've found, these old war posters are royalty free and now been altered into a new composition.
If it gets rejected, I guess I'd understand. Live and learn and try again I guess.
Thanks in advance for any specifics that can be provided.

You're thinking about this the wrong way. It isn't about what you're entitled to use and still be within the letter of the rules, it's about what you can create. I think this will most likely be rejected (if they care about that this week) because it looks like you mainly just took the source graphic and filtered it. Still, even if you're not rejected, using recognizable stock may cost you votes. You just can't make a one-of-kind design using a stock graphic as the centerpiece, you know?

All that said, I think it's a clever idea.

I appreciate this insight very much!
Thanks for replying to my questions. I'll be trying again on the next derby and will keep all these things in mind. Until then, I await the big red stamp. LOL

I've always seen this one "How about a nice big cup of Shut the F#$* Up?" At least yours is more considerate...
