Re: Dream Analysis : According to Freud.

A little late due to the fact that were were entertaining guests Thursday - Saturday.

A take on Freud and his dream theories. Freud's face is made up of a variety of shapes that Freud attributed to men and women in analyzing dreams. Shapes such as sticks, umbrellas, poles, knives, trees, guns, mushroom, keys, pencils, hammers and screwdrivers, fish reptiles, swans, ties and feathers were attributed to men. Items such as caves, jars, bottles, boxes, chests, shoes, jewels, snails, mussels, peaches, apples, melons rocks and flowers were associated with women. Also included in the abstract shapes are pianos, missing teeth (JADEN!), flowing water, airplanes, balloons, dancing and riding....also shapes that were meaningful to dream analysis according to Freud.

Thanks Failoan! I have so much catching up to do in the forums. Have I missed anything in the past couple days? Congratulations on your turtle win and super-fast sellout. I loved that design from the moment I saw it. So glad others felt the same way. (It doesn't always work out that way.)

I'm working on a couple other entries and then I can't wait to see what other people submitted.

Thanks Fable- I got a late start this week, but finally finished. I have a couple other ideas, but given that I've already put in 12 hours, I think I've got to call it quits. Save some energy for other works!

I'm just starting to check out all the other entries. Looking forward to seeing what other people have come up with.

I think you're missing a huge one! Cigars! Not only is that a very Freudian image, but it's also what caused his death.

Beano before, and there'll be no gas!

This is a great shirt and perfect for me, a psychoanalytic literature critic.

Absolutely! There are actually cigars and pipes included in the shapes. (You'll be able to figure them out upon close examination of the shapes in the face.)

The dreamlike clouds are placed to mimic his lapel and shirt flap. I thought about having this part of the design continue to a hand holding a cigar, but I wondered if it was okay to depict smoking on a woot shirt. (Just doing my part to keep the image PG-13) So I dropped the idea of the cigar.

On one site I visited, the reporter mentioned that "Freud doesn't mention bananas, hot dogs, or cigars, but their phallic symbolism is obvious. (Freud is alleged to have once said - does any reader know where? - that in some dreams a cigar may be just a cigar.)"

Anyway...I still allowed for the pipes, cigars, bananas and hot dogs. If you look through the shapes in the face, you'll probably spot them.

Thanks for the the votes all. I really appreciate it!

@kylemittskus - You're absolutely right! This shirt was made for you!

Thanks Cheese! I love your cupcake one too. Glad to see the it getting the votes to pull off a win. I did a similar tree branch and leaves with the bees for the citizenship derby, but it just didn't quite mesh with the voters. Glad to see that a whimsy design is pulling in some votes. Good luck!

Thanks Brizz. You and Snarky are the toughest people to sell on a design (imho). So, it means a lot to hear that you like one of my designs. I remember you being nice to my Marxist one awhile back too. That should now be released to us, I think.

Thanks again!

well, you consistently do creative work, Freud just happened to hit on something I found cool. I'm not sure that i'm all that hard to please, or any more discriminating than many others, i'm just fond enough of procrastinating that I take the time to say it out loud here ;) As frustrating as it can be to watch carp pass by genius, it's all a nice diversion from the drudgery of spending all my waking hours writing.

I'd LOVE to see my Freud design printed this week. I'd also adore Edgar's designs. I hope the voters will look closely at both designs.

I know. But it is the 'dream' derby, right? And, that would be my dream.

Come on guys, vote for Freud, keep his dream (and mine) alive.

And Brizz - Thanks again for the Freud mention in the main derby. Every little bit helps especially for designs that are neither in the hotness nor the fog.

Thank you! I wish I could recruit all Psychology Majors to please vote, maybe then this design would stand a chance. But it got a late start and I don't think it's going to make up the necessary votes for the fog at this point. But, I certainly appreciate your comments!

@Snarky- I understand completely. And, I always appreciate your honesty!

Sometimes a brilliant design is just a brilliant design.

If woot doesn't end up printing this one, will you make it available somewhere else for purchase? I'd love to own this one.

I'm still holding out hope for this one...but I don't think it's going to make up the necessary votes. Thanks for taking a look at the design. I hope people view the more detailed comp picture.

Send me a PM and when the 60 days are up, I'll consider putting it on a tshirt for direct purchase.

Thanks again!

This shirt is wonderful it fully deserves to be in, not only is it a beautiful design but it really exemplifies the competition better than any of the others in my opinion, plus my psychology of consciousness professor would love it!

Thanks! I think it would have been fun for the professor! But, not this time around. Still, if you'd like to PM me, I'm happy to let you know what becomes of the design.

I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment.
