Great design, one of the most original I've seen yet! Why'd you wait so long to submit?

Thanks a lot. I dreamed this idea last night when I was sleeping unfortunately. I even dreamed of drawing it up and submitting it. Stupid dreams, always three days late.

I'm impressed by how successfully you were able to create the illusion of depth and volume in a silhouette.

I used several different references of fencers and cobbled them together into one image. Wish I could say I spent hours hand drawing it and getting proportions right, but it was done on my lunch break. I still see a lot of mistakes and tweaks to make, but I can't really win now anyways so it doesn't matter all that much .

Um, this is only my childhood on a shirt. I always lost at cardboard tube swords. My brothers were so brutal, dammit! You've got my vote despite the fact that I look like total ass in red and could/would never actually WEAR this as a result. *vote given*

Beano before, and there'll be no gas!

I really like the idea but the way the winner is drawn bothers me so much. XD; He looks like he's floating, and I think it is due to the way the back leg is drawn (not aligned with the implied ground and perspective there, and to me it was hard to interpret as a back leg). When I first saw the drawing it looked like a leg that ended in a stump and made me go "huh?" and look closer to see what was going on.

Really? I don't see that at all. To me it looks like it lines up quite well if you look at the feet of the other guy.
Very nicely done Tgentry .... This has become one of my favorites of this derby.

It could mean one of two things, but I don't want to get probation so I won't elaborate. But thanks Dekonstruct for the hard vote.

My boyfriend wants this shirt so hardcore. As steadily as it's rising, there's still a chance!

Keep dreamin', tgent! It's really good for you.

Ha, thanks! Yeah there's still a chance but it's very slim. I'm thinking of breaking down and getting a cafepress or zuzzle or whatever they're called shirt place since I have a dozen or more designs that never went anywhere. If/when this one doesn't get printed, after 30 days I might be able to put it up there.

TG- I hope the fencers' time in the hotness isn't competing against your Prospector entry. I really want that one! At first, I thought you were crazy to submit another design when you already had one in the fog, but the cardboard fighters are doing really well. I just hope it doesn't affect the Prospector's chances. It's my favorite of the fogged entries. (The fencers aren't my favorite TGentry design....and you know that I'm a huge fan of your work.)

Thanks for the comments. Yeah I have a soft spot for the prospector. Honestly it would sting a bit if I couldn't see it get printed. The cardboard fencers was a quick idea I had to get out. I didn't think it would actually get the votes that it has. As for how it affects the prospector, I don't really know. I don't even know how it's been in the fog for so long, I almost never see it in the hotness. I guess we'll see what happens, there's still almost two full days of voting left.

You're probably thinking twice about that now, I just saw how many votes you got. And btw, I should mention that I am severely jealous of how you can make something so awesome on a lunch break. I've notice all of the derby designers that get picked the most usually have two or three designs and are frequently near the top. Whats your secret!?

Heh, secret? You got me Panda. Till a month ago I couldn't pay people to vote for my designs.

Even at this pace though I still don't think it would possible for it to catch up. The other fog entries are getting nearly just as many votes. But if voters want to push it through, I'm all for it. I think it's a fun shirt I'd probably wear.

Yes, you should definitely yield, you don't want to end up like this!

TG, I like your ideas. you are very clever. Don't know if it is a winner. But it takes me back to my childhood well enough. Those years of nailing my brother with cardbord rolls in an attempt to best my big brother. How those times ended with such a beating. Aaaah memories.... I'd buy it.

I've actually bought all of your shirts so far, not that I knew they were yours at the time, but this one would be no exception. I think I like it better than the one you have in the fog right now

Great Shirt! I'm voting for it...

It's too bad you didn't get it on sooner. I think you would have been in the top 4...but there is still time, so you may still get there.

uh, this one was submitted on Monday afternoon. A great deal of the total votes come on Friday and Saturday. Had he entered it on Friday, I'm sure it would have done better. That is part of the fun of this being a Derby, the early entries have an advantage. speed does matter in the derby.
