There was much pre-debate in the forums concerning how the rules were to be interpreted. I'd say the clearest reading of the rules is that the robots themselves must not be popular culture. The second sentence further clarifies this by specifically saying

Don't even bother asking if this ban includes that one robot from that one movie or comic book or video game. It does.

Though obviously woot will decide whatever they please, as far as I can tell, they have not ruled out non-robot references.

That's our interpretation, at least.

Yes, all colors count. You're allowed to let the shirt color show through in your design without having it count, though.

On one hand, I don't disagree. On the other, it bothers me that you submitted something that is questionably allowed. IMO, this is a pop culture reference, but I guess we shall see.

This is very lovely, but it does count as a pop culture reference. They recently rejected a piece that was an homage to Starry Night in a no pop cult derby. :\ Very pretty image, I just think the rules might get you.

This is probably my favorite design of the ones that are currently in the fog.
I do have a little bit of a concern about the really dark colors. Is this a navy shirt? Those blacks and dark grays, like all of the backgrounds will be pretty tough to see on the print.
I still like it though!

Hopeful this doesn't get rejected. I have to admit I'm a little surprised that Escher or Starry Night are considered "pop culture" (given the sorts of things that are typically considered to be 'pop culture'). Crossing my fingers for you. This is certainly a shirt I'd buy.
