Re: Spire
Coolio!
Re: Gallows Humor
This one had me laughing! Great sense of humor to go with your awesome artwork. :D
Re: Tree Birds
The colors compliment each other perfectly. Great design, boots!
Re: Rainy Souls
Two colors, no halftones and a whole lot of wow! Amazing work.
Re: BUNDITO!
Nice illo. That mustache is great!
Robot saves the world on woodcut!
Thanks for the input everyone, i'll mess around with it and get a V2 going. How would you all feel about a navy shirt? Kinda like this...
Re: morning joe
I like his pajamas. Cute design!
Re: Waiting for Spring
Really nice artwork, but the shape just doesn't work well with a shirt.
This fellow looks pretty distinguished! Awesome character, SG. I think you really nailed the woodcut look too. +1!
PSquishy wrote:Sorry, but there's nothing special or original about this shirt. It looks like every Roxy, Billabong, Oneil girl's shirt at PacSun. And it looks like every tree/bird shirt that plagued this site a couple years ago. TGentry even made a shirt to mock that whole mess; it not-so-ironically won second place in a derby.
The flow reminds me even more of the old daily Saw a Ghost, except that that one, while also simple, had a quite lovely execution and a shred of concept, and this doesn't. It's nothing remotely original in style or substance, and it's not even done super well.
Re: OH SHIP!
Nice design! I like the way you drew the flames and the smoke. Really sets the mood for this piece.

This is a good point. This is really, really cool. Very well done. Lovely! Yet...the giant square doesn't really work on a shirt (IMHO). I would love this as a print though.
awcoburn wrote:This really says "woodcut" to me. Great job!
LOL thanks! It's not easy to get it to sort of have that feel when you're working in the computer. It was a real struggle.
Re: Surprise!!!
This is really good. The details are wonderful and it's a striking design.
Re: Life
I am starting to think my art technique is not what the world wants to see... let alone wear.
Re: Nature loves technology
You can see it in the far away shot but the close up is way too dark.
Re: Fear Me
Why is this off topic? Isn't the topic woodcuts, this could be a woodcut. I am not sure how to improve. Could someone enlighten me?
Took me a second to figure out what that was on the gallows but once I did, I had a good time cracking up. This is great
Re: Toro
As always, similar shirts exist Same color on color, similar styles.
Re: ANCIENT VISITORS
This is actually a cool concept. Takes you a minute to see it for what it is. +1
Re: I Arrrr Lucky
The necklace is made of the gold teeth of his enemies!! ARRR! Awesomely cute! The little birdie is my favorite.
lilaviel wrote:THANK YOU for actually making this look like a woodcut! It's been buggin me that so many of the submissions so far don't. Of course I also think the design is adorable. I'd totally buy it.
Oh thanks so much! It's one of the problems with style derbies in general not everyone will be able to get the style down. I was actually worried about it myself because I was working in the computer. So I'm glad to hear that it looks right. =D
One of the things that most of the old woodcut scenes had in common was that they packed so much action into a very visually confined space. You captured this beautifully!
Re: To Air
Loving all of your shirt designs. This one is particularly beautiful. One of the few I can see as an actual shirt.

One of the most challenging things I found about this topic was making the very best use of the second color. What you did here with the mint green highlight is what my mind's eye was looking for but not seeing. Beautiful!
The ideas you come up with...this is awesome. Truly amazing. I was curious to see what people would do without any real thematic constraints on subject matter. As predicted most have disappointed, and also as predicted, your have not.
Who won that fight, btw? I missed the end cause my TIVO cut it off.
Yours is one of few designs that has really managed to take the 2nd color and turn it into something awesome. Most of these entries have just wasted it. This is one is perfect.
Re: White Wolf From Another World
Augh it's making me go crosseyed
This derby has opened up a lot of cool textures within designs. Yours is one of the best I've seen...and quite creative.
I love that they are all real birds! Beautiful!
LOL
Re: Who needs snow?
You got me with your Signature +1

Ha ha ha I should have given him more bling and messed his ears up more. So he'd loook like he got into a lot of fights. I wanted him to have a pipsqueak version of the normal parrot. And yeah the little bird is my favorite part as well.
DSLADEK!!!! YOU RETURN!!! It's great to see you back in this buddy. And what a sweet design to get the show started!

I didn't mean to imply that the shirt was like TGentry's. Just mentioning it as a reference point for the overflow of all the tree/bird designs that flooded woot at that time.
