I know there are a bunch of threads dedicated to the new Anvil shirt sizing, and although I tried my best to keep up with them, I gave up around two weeks ago. Up until that point, though, I didn't see anyone comment on how/if the kid shirt sizing has changed. Does anyone have experience with how the kid-sized Anvil shirts fit vs. the old AAs? For example, my older son was an AA K12...would he still be a K12? After reading some of the comments regarding how off the size charts are vs. the reality, I don't trust them. Thanks!

They're cut differently. I took a photo of two K10s for you. Both have been washed a few times, so you can see how they end up after shrinking (washed in cold, dried on extra low).

The Anvil (bottom) is wider and a tiny bit shorter (not by much). The main difference is the sleeves and neck hole. The sleeves on the Anvil are much much bigger than the AA. Also, you can't really see it in the photo, but the Anvil neck is much wider too. I used to buy AA K10s for my 7-year-old. They were a little big, but looked fine (and he could grow into them). The Anvil K10 looks silly on him because the sleeves are way too big and the collar falls off of his shoulder when he runs around. I'll probably try an Anvil K8 for him the next time I buy him a shirt. If that's still too big in the arms and neck, I think he's out of luck until he gets older. From the size chart, it looks like the K6 is 4 inches shorter than the K8, so it wont be long enough.

Hope that helps!

Yeah, the Anvils are much bigger.
My son wears a Men's S in AA and Anvil, but fits a K12 with room to spare (though it is much much shorter) in Anvil kids sizes. I was getting K10 in AA for my daughter, but a K6 fits her in Anvil, or a K8 to prolong the usable life. The biggest issue, as Boots mentioned, is length. Kids grow up faster than out, so the usable life is significantly reduced.

I think you can safely order by the age range you normally buy. (e.g if you buy size 10 at Target, then a K10 is appropriate)

move along

My 2 yr old son wears K4 AA and they fit him great, but the K4 Anvil slips over the shoulder a lot. Sassy in an 80's kind of way, but it gets old fast. Maybe it will tighten up with some washings, or maybe I'll try being more careful with the pre-over-the-head collar stretch...

Thank you so much for your replies (and the pictures). The cut of then neck and sleeves sound like a real bummer. My 8-year-old doesn't have huge guns or a neck like a tree trunk, so the fit definitely isn't ideal. I guess I'll try the K10 the next time he sees a "gotta have it" shirt and hope for the best.

Thanks again...and btw Boots...when are kids tees finally making their way onto your site?
