I do think this shirt is pretty funny, but at the same time think it's an interesting departure from the family friendliness for which woot usually aims. I have no doubt, however, that there are plenty of shirts offered in the past that are less than family friendly (In Addition to Your Radishes, I Will Take This immediately comes to mind for some reason).

But that's the nice thing about woot. There will always be a new shirt tomorrow.

mabsab wrote:I think its hilarious and I am a teacher. That is probably what adds to the humor, for me. HOWEVER, I will have to pass on this one as I teach Preschool in a small town. Don't care to "explain" the shirt to my little ones at school or run into parents, siblings or former students around town with the "F" reference on my shirt. STILL.... a FUNNY shirt!!!!! If I taught High School or College I would definitely get one.

Yeah, this is my issue. I think I will go ahead and get the red ink internet shirt I was debating over for more laughs. I teach high school and college, and I could not wear the 'F' shirt to either campus. In addition, I'm not sure I'd want to run into parents this summer and have them thinking "wow, is she one of those teachers who gets gleeful over giving 'F' grades?" Finally, the artistry just isn't that great (even if it is referencing school-age kids' scribbles, like on a desk or notebook): whether "artsy," clever, or cutesie, usually woot is just "cleaner"-looking than this.

Sadly, not into inspiring f-bomb references in folks around me. IMHO, this should remain a clever image that could be circulated via various media, not emblazoned across one's chest to polarize passers-by.

Graphically, I love the illustration style... and I'm a sucker for anything inanimate with a face and hands on it.

I can't believe how many people are crying about the this shirt. I think it's funny, and Woot is not "family friendly" all the time, nor should it be or I would stop buying these shirts. If you want family friendly stuff go to Kids.woot, Nickelodeon Channel, or I got it go to a store for kids.

I generally agree that this kind of humor is outside our norm at Shirt. I wouldn't suggest this is indicative of any change in direction. I'll admit I was a little uneasy at first, but I like trying to find something vaguely topical (end of school year) and, to Haxrox's comment, a little shock-jockey. All in moderation of course.

Good to hear the comments though.

Debating the appropriateness of this shirt for a soon to be 1st grader and his soon to be kindergartener brother. They both got a lot of laughs for The Binge. Reference to profanity might be a bit less allowable than a reference to being fall down drunk on lactose tho.

Hmmm, maybe for their teachers as an end of the year present...

Also sometimes a little inappropriateness is a good thing. Anthropomorphic turtles and Ninjas can only go so far.

I chuckled [it's FINALS week at my high school], but'll have to pass. I have been on a campaign to rehabilitate the F-bomb - it gets used way too much and has lost most of its value, while still sounding crass when it's every other word out of a teenager's mouth. It used to be such a good shocking word - it lacked the sexism of the C word or the ugly racism of the N word. Used sparingly, it had the desired effect when used in appropriate situations. This shirt is probably only wearable during non-student days at most schools - I usually get away with my Woots at school - the value of teaching those way too concrete thinking 9th graders to groan at a bad pun - but this one wouldn't fly. End of meandering thoughts before giving of the first final.

My rule is, don't wear anything on your shirt that you wouldn't say to your grandmother. At some point in your day you will come across someone's grandmother. When I see a shirt like this on someone, I feel like I'm being cursed at, it's just impolite and tacky. Keep the strong language among your friends, don't spew it at the general public.
And yes, I have a sense of humor and I don't have a stick anywhere that it doesn't belong.

Agree - that was totally my initial reaction

But my Special Ed teacher wife who deals with all sorts of crap day in and day out would absolutely LOVE it! And the write up was another gem. Nice job Woot!

FWIW, I do have a Woot shirt that's both cute AND violent ...

Woot has printed up some offending designs from time to time, so don't think this is out of their realm. In fact, one of the beta.shirt.woot designs was Offensive Robot, which I will put down as my most "unwearable in public" shirt I have. Yes, even my Foamy the Squirrel "Fingers" shirt is more wearable in public than O.R.

My darling, sweet little grandmother once zinged my cousin with wicked a "That's what she said." Last time I dropped an F-bomb in her house she washed my mouth out with a bar of lava soap.

EDIT:

But hey, let's see how woot feels about this

fabulous

Please do not let the critical comments for this shirt dissuade you from offering similar designs in the future. This was the first Woot shirt in a while I knew I had to have and purchased immediately. If people have an issue with designs in this vein, they can simply choose not to purchase them. But please make them occasionally available for folks such as myself who enjoy them and will certainly buy them.

What if I would say this to my grandmother? Would you say that you are secret lovers or anything else.

I mean I don't get it. I personally like Woot's variety of t-shirts, I want an edgy shirt otherwise I would just buy shirts from target or walmart at half the price.

I really want today's shirt. here's the thing- I'm flat broke. however, I do have the code for a $10 gift card to amazon. is there anyone out there willing to spot me $10, and I"ll give them the gift card? preferably just paypal, or whatever. help me please? I realize this leaves me with like $2, but I can handle that. so basically I'm selling my gift card. someone out there? please? My amazon gift card is useless to me in this situation!

I think it's funny so I bought it; a certain set of my friends and colleagues might see it, others at my university will not.

People who have a problem with this design need to lighten up. It's a t-shirt, not formal wear, and I should hope most of us know when it is appropriate to wear a shirt with a humorous design and when it is not.

Expressing your personal distaste for this shirt is one thing, but chastising Woot and thereby petitioning them to not produce such designs in the future is another thing entirely. That is analogous to book burning. You destroy books, preventing others from enjoying them, simply because you personally do no agree with the content. There should be no tolerance for this in today's society.

It took 2 weeks teaching high school for me to lose all faith in humanity. Most people get an F in socially acceptable behavoiur. Typically they tell you to lighten up and that it's all in good fun while they're doing it.
