Re: Flying Penguin Color Wheel

Resubmitted in its original design by popular demand.

Color wheel of flying penguins. Take a penguin, add color, and you've got flight!

I think it looks great, but you don't have to say its a color wheel in the name

Re: Point Yin-Yang

Its cool, but I don't think this is pointillism. Pretty sure that requires the blending of colors.

I'm not sure this is in Woot's printable area. You might want to test it for a smaller part of the shirt.

Hey, the theme is all pointy, so I'm just getting to the point of things by being direct.

Okay okay, I just didn't have any good ideas for the title. Psychedelic Flying Penguins just doesn't sound as cool as it did earlier.

This made me laugh, and while it will likely incite the heavy hand of the rejectionator I will vote for it.

Re: firefox

The point of pointillism (heh) is not the circumference of the dots. It's not whether you use dots or dashes. Let's say you want to use purple in your painting, most people would take red paint and blue paint and mix them. Pointillism works on the idea that by mixing paint you pervert the true color. In pointillism you would instead use layering to create the effect of purple. Artists who used pointillism believed the human eye would see a more pure color if you did it this way.
Let's talk about the dot versus dash thing. Yes, I will say the dashes in this are slightly longer than what I might see in a painting. I don't think this effects the usage of the style, since the purpose of pointillism is just a bit deeper than how round your dots are Further more, most of the paintings we can use as examples of the true style are just that, paintings. Most painters don't use photoshop, so it's kind of hard to get that perfect round dot. So, if we were creating digital re-interpretations of the style, then I would say go ahead and make the dots actual dots. If, however, the purpose of the theme is to give a classic style guideline and have the designers follow as closely as possible without physical paint and canvas then I say this is a fair representation.
Just how nitpicky are we going to be here? Are we going to say, too many dashes of the same color together makes a solid image? I don't see a solid brown image beneath random dots. I see several shades of brown creating that fox. Which brown is the solid image? The dark brown? That light brown? Is it in the tail, or the body?

For Clarification: I want to be truthful here. I don't think any derby entry that uses colors other than the three primary colors is truly pointillism. In that respect, there are very few entries I consider true to the style. Be that as it may, I do not believe that the purpose of the derby themes is that restrictive. I don't think the Moderators are all art majors, who have spent years analyzing the styles and themes they give us. I think they give us these themes in an attempt to provoke creativity. So I feel that should an entry follows the spirit of the the style, and not the law of the style (lol, laws in art) then I'm not expert enough to tell them otherwise.

My constructive criticism for this entry:

Get some pictures of real animals before drawing them. I'm sure it'll help you loads to actually do some life study.......

That's all I'm gonna say. There's just too much. But for once you're actually on theme. Gasp.

Re: Taj Mahal

I would wear it, and love it, and call it Taj. It would be my new yellow mellow friend, and we would eat Indian food together, and drink chai tea. Then after perhaps go buy some new bangles to jazz up the look. Oh it would be awesome, especially because I'm having Mehndi done to my hands in 2 weeks for my birthday.

But alas some random craptastic emo-anime looking throw up will win, and I will stand there sad, nay angry, clenching my $10 in my fist screaming "WHY GOD WHY?! all I wanted was the Taj Mahal stretched across my breasticles for all to see it's wonder.

I need to stop logging on-line after taking my Ambien....I'm going to stop now. k, night!

Be the change...
