Thanks for the early votes and comments!

I struggled yesterday to come up with something for this Derby. There were so many great quotes I wanted to use, but I just couldn't come up with a way to execute them. Finally this came to mind in the nick of time. It's not Robert Frost or Dante Alighieri, but Orwell's 1984 is one of my favorite books, so I'm still pleased.

*Edit

Here's a large image if you'd like to see.

Re: On the Shoulders of Giants

Bernard of Chartres used to say that we are like dwarfs on the shoulders of giants, so that we can see more than they, and things at a greater distance, not by virtue of any sharpness of sight on our part, or any physical distinction, but because we are carried high and raised up by their giant size.

Re: Asimov's Three Laws

1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey any orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

This is awesome. I've always wanted to do something like this, illustrations coming out of a book, but with clay. I can't draw.

Re: Hero

The one thing I love about the derby, is watching people get more votes in the 1st 10 minutes, than I will get in the entire 144 hours.

I think the red is too distracting from the rest of the design.

The derby is 15 minutes old, and you already have more votes than I will get all week. Good job on the design!

I like the idea, but the fading out of the second giant and the loss of legs doesn't seem right. Maybe you could includ both the giants in their entirety (feet too, instead of cut off legs.)

very nice, but it seems Christmas-y with the red shirt and the bells. Would appear more whimsical with different colors.

I'm pretty much chalking that up to the fact that the two objects in question are sort of similar looking. I spent a decent amount of time tweaking the colors so its more orange, and hopefully associated with a yam.

People are going to see what they want to see though. I doubt the giant Mr. Hankey pic posted in the thread is going to help out much as far as that goes, but I do appreciate the critique.
